President Donald Trumps announcement on Thursday that James Mattis would be stepping down as secretary of defense in February was a shock to many conservatives ― and not in a good way. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said in a statement that he was distressed that [Mattis] is resigning due to sharp differences with the president on ... key aspects of Americas global leadership.

If I could have pets where I live, I would have two English Bulldogs. One would be named Smedley and the other would be named Daly.
Correction: Its a wake up call for the Pentagon...no more more blank checks!
That is awesome! Would like to see the whole kit.
Go read article from previous thread above. “Mattis Was No Good”

One can disagree but one can’t plot and backstab. Truth v. Lies, Explore v. Ambush, etc.
Key word: GLOBAL. Mattis is a climate hoax,
America last globalist.
Thank God and Greyhound he’s gone.
The secretary of defense differs on foreign policy with the President? Regardless of the difference, this is the perfect implementation of the my way or the highway approach. Glad to see DJT took that route albeit he couched it in nice words. In the past some SecDefs were not fully on board with the CiC positions but just marched on not wishing to cause a stir. IMO Rumsfield was not fully on board with Bush and MacNamara indicated he was not fully on board with his presidents likewise. What did Mattis think he was going to do, run off to Mt. Thunder activate ECOMCON and take over?? Sorry General, we respect your service BUT when the boss says we are going this way, you can state your objection, but in the end you have a choice, carry it out or do what you did. Sorry for you that you decided to air your objections in the open; bad move both for you and for the country.
Time for the Iran lobby to panic, believe it or not.
Has anyone ever considered that the general might just plain be tired. When you get older (I know, I am) there gets to be a wall you face that you used to hop over, now you fight to get over, and then you realize you’re too old to even try as everything hurts non-stop inside and out.
The leftover 2,200 advisors and intelligence people from the operation aren’t going to change the balance of power in the ME.
Wow, I thought at least Tom Cotton could escape the wrath of freepers. Is everyone who ever disagrees with President Trump the enemy? Heaven help us....
Good luck getting that $3.6 billion for a new beach at Camp Lejeune. POTUS can see who is supportive of his policies. I’ll buy you a clue: it isn’t the military brass and now we see the results of that in the Middle East draw down. He’s got no reason to accomodate on Middle East policy when Generals like “Moderate Dog” Mattis hen-peck and broadly undermine his agenda across the board.
DJT: never let anyone outside the White house know what you are thinking. I think your brain is going soft with all that activity on the DC cocktail circuit. (paraphrase to Mario Puzo).
Exactly. Mattis was the guy you wanted when the SHTF, but he was a little out of his depth fighting the Washington bureaucratic wars.
Plus, he rose to high rank under W and Obama. You have to figure that he was going to resist some of his new boss’s initiatives, or at least de-prioritize them in pursuit of things he personally felt were of greater importance. It was clear that he had played out his string.
Ha ha ha ha try again assholes these aren’t conservatives, they are enemies.
So now that the country is turning left they want our country defended, they see a benefit to that now, but not then. The left is in distress because the right sees no point in defending the USA now especially with the southern border wide open. Why do foreign intervention for them, why die and spend money in 3rd world hell holes and fight THEIR battles?
“I like Mattis. For the job of planning an invasion, or planning the rebuilding of the military, he is a good one.”
Gen. Tommy Frank’s planned the takedown of Iraq. Mattis was pretty junior during the initial takedown of Afghanistan - which again was a SOCOM plan using some Marine Recon assets. Mattis had more to do with the passification of Anbar province, I think.
“The Russians tried that earlier this year. How did that work out for them?”
40 Americans with massive arty support from what I read. The Russian mercenary light infantry got caught out in the open. Attacking a small combined arms force dug in on a ridgeline with a 1-dimensional force is the height of military incompetence. Brave men though.
