Oh snap, grab my belt, were going deep.
This move is not unexpected; especially for those who have followed the Trump Doctrine for the past two years. President Trump has announced reception of a notification from Defense Secretary James Mattis that he intends to retire.
The move makes sense on multiple levels. President Trump has been executing a policy, a clear doctrine of sorts, where national security is achieved by leveraging U.S. economic power. It is a fundamental shift in approach.
Initially, the traditional military interventionist approach couldnt just be reversed or dispatched; and James Mattis was the bridge to a path forward. Toward that end President Trump remove military constraints, allow rules of engagement that were much stronger, and let Mattis work on confronting and stamping out terror threats. In essence, an aggressive lets get this over with approach.
However, that strong-arm military approach cannot continue indefinitely because it will never end. War and intervention have a history of unnecessarily expanding, if not constrained. The war machine turns into a military business.
President Trump wants U.S. troops brought home from all the stupid wars; and as a consequence the time for Defense Secretary Mattis was sure to come to an end.
The Trump Doctrine of using economics to achieve national security objectives is a fundamental paradigm shift, history provides no reference.
Just like the demanded restructuring of NATO, removing troops from Syria and likely Afghanistan will run counter to the interventionist policies of those who advocate for military deployments; and also the benefactors on the business end of the military industrial complex.

In brief, he quit because he was not allowed to set national foreign policy. He was too immature to realize that he could have yet provided important material support to the soldiers carrying out the orders of the President.
He put his personal ego above the men’s well-being.
“He had some real rascals (putting it mildly) working for him who did him in.”
He had one. One really rotten one. John Dean. The architect of the Watergate break-in, without Nixon’s knowledge.
Read Colodny and Gettlin’s “Silent Coup” if you can find a copy.
Mattis didn’t specify in his letter what his disagreement with Trump is, but that hasn’t stopped anyone here from describing exactly what bugged him enough to quit. Mind readers.
He has to do that himself, all we can do is participate in fraudulent elections, he has the power of the Presidency.
Thanks for removing all the trannies that Trump ordered you to do.
The Globalist Neocons in D.C. are going crazy tonight. Some are calling for a military COUP. Unbelievable.
Precisely
Nice synopsis
Mathis countermanded the boot the trannies order POTUS issued. We dont need trannies in the military. This is a good move in my view.
Ping! Good post!
Erik Erickson as much as called for a military coup.
How that jackass can look at himself in the mirror everyday, and have any respect for himself, is beyond me.
Nice to see Trump coming into his own. Cleaning house is good, he needed those he could some what trust early on to move him along learn the ropes until it was time to replace them with people that will be loyal and get his agenda on track
He resigned. He didn't retire.
Mattis was the right man for the right time. New phase now about to be launched and a new Secretary will lead it.
Obama went through 4 Defense Secretaries in 8 years. This is not abnormal.
And would add “competence” in their specialty.
The churn in his administration is a natural process of trying out hopeful people and seeing if they work out.
Tillerson served a useful role in the beginning when we needed a strong stance in the Middle East. Tillerson, being in the oil business, knew the leaders in the Gulf States. But when it came to North Korea, he needed a more energetic and loyal SoS.
Trump view Cabinet as not permanent, but as tools that can easily be — and should be — replaced as the needs of We the People evolve.
Mattis let Trump sign a budget with $800B for the military and not one dime for the wall. F Mattis. He can KMA. You don’t do the to the CiC.
Fixed it.
Paying tribute to deep state traitors only gets you more deep state traitors.
You can no longer claim to be an American with that comment
