Breaking: President Trump Announces James Mattis Retiring…
CONSERVATIVE TREEHOUSE ^ | 12/20/2018 | SUNDANCE

Oh snap, grab my belt, we’re going deep.

This move is not unexpected; especially for those who have followed the Trump Doctrine for the past two years. President Trump has announced reception of a notification from Defense Secretary James Mattis that he intends to retire.

The move makes sense on multiple levels. President Trump has been executing a policy, a clear doctrine of sorts, where national security is achieved by leveraging U.S. economic power. It is a fundamental shift in approach.

Initially, the traditional military interventionist approach couldn’t just be reversed or dispatched; and James Mattis was the bridge to a path forward. Toward that end President Trump remove military constraints, allow rules of engagement that were much stronger, and let Mattis work on confronting and stamping out terror threats. In essence, an aggressive “lets get this over with” approach.

However, that strong-arm military approach cannot continue indefinitely because it will never end. War and intervention have a history of unnecessarily expanding, if not constrained. The war machine turns into a military business.

President Trump wants U.S. troops brought home from all the “stupid wars”; and as a consequence the time for Defense Secretary Mattis was sure to come to an end.

The Trump Doctrine of using economics to achieve national security objectives is a fundamental paradigm shift, history provides no reference.

Just like the demanded restructuring of NATO, removing troops from Syria and likely Afghanistan will run counter to the interventionist policies of those who advocate for military deployments; and also the benefactors on the business end of the military industrial complex.

I am beginning to think that Mattis, the swamp general, was going to be fired and he preempted the president by turning in his resignation.

He did not want the ignominy of learning of his firing on Twitter like Tillerson, so decided to leave in a graceful way.

Good move, Mattis is a Globalist, and a perpetual war lobbyist.

When he was elected, I really believed that Trump has the magic touch when it came to putting the right people in the right places. That does not seem to be the case. But even with these personnel issues and phony investigation, Trump is the best president I have ever seen, it’s not even close.

I have been reading some reading about the Nixon administration. He had some real rascals (putting it mildly) working for him who did him in.

At least Trump is proving that he can see thru people enough to get rid of them before they do him in.

Its simple. Trump went to bat for the Military. And the Military is balking when it come to defending our border. Like its too small a job for them. So Mattis says that he can’t do Syria and protect our border. So Trump says fine. I choose the border. Stop the troops in Syria. Send them home. Now we have the money to defend our border. And Mattis quits. Thats fine. You need a general that defends our country and takes orders from the president. And we need a president that listens to the people.

I think we have that now...If we can keep him in office.

“When he was elected, I really believed that Trump has the magic touch when it came to putting the right people in the right places. “

Same here, as much as I like Trump he has done one crappy job of picking his team, the worst one by far being Sessions. Not far behind is Jay Powell the Fed chairman, who will singlehandedly get us into a recession just in time for 2020 elections.

His next picks should be people that are...

1. loyal to him
2. have the same world view
3. are capable executors and defenders of his agenda
4. have a thick skin and will take on the media
5. Don’t bring any baggage

“I think we have that now...If we can keep him in office.”

Is that not the truth. Even Republicans are trying to get rid of President Trump.

Mattis was the right person, at the right time, for a specific purpose. Mathis was a very successful placement, but his very success timed himself out. (as happens often in the corporate world) So now it’s time to move on to the next right person at the right time. That Trump can do that without skipping a beat is the sign of an effective and successful manager who is always looking forward. Steady on!

He keeps picking these swamp people. He needs to hire his supporters, we are smart, have great jobs and are willing to give that up to work with him. He needs an army of like minded people in there to watch his back!

Sounds about right to me...

Somehow I knew before reading the comments here that Gen. Mattis would feel the excoriation of many freepers. Sadly I was not disappointed.

I thank you General for you lifetime of service to our Republic.

So you are of the mind that our Chief Execution Officer needs to have a chorus of “yes men” rather than experts in their fields advising him, even when it means disagreeing?

Just wondering.

No, but experts in their field advising him are F-ing up if they cannot accept that their advice will sometimes, even often, be listened to, but that the PRESIDENT may elect to take a different course.

Nobody faults Mattis for saying what he thinks about military matters. But the Sec def needs to execute orders, and he needs to understand he does not SET national policy, he executes it.
