That’s the thing I never understand, why not withdraw and then terrorize THEM forever. Do whatever weapons tests flyover bombings we want.

Tell Afghanistan if they don’t like it CHANGE.

Actually...

I’m not so sure. I hope I’m wrong here, but let me post a possibility...

Trump is a smart guy... his own supposed party GOPe basically resisted giving him Border money, or prioritizing money to assist in Border Security. He was put in a corner where there was not a majority of people in Congress or Senate who would do the right thing. There just wasn’t anything positive in the short-term that they could believe would help them.
So what could he do?

Well Guess what unifying thing exists on several old democrats and lots of the GOPe... If you guessed Government contracting and war making you’d get a cookie...

With Trump saying he’ll pull-out of Syria and Afghanistan he just fired a flare at the big contractors, and the deep pockets recircing money back into the machine. In my opinion he just hit them all where it hurts.

Don’t be surprised if he gets the funding and there is a walk back on leaving afterwards... I hope I’m wrong.

Windy, my gut tells me that some time in the near future DJT is going to make a major address to the nation and spell out all the corruption, hypocrisy, the double standards, the Deep State, etc.

Folks, I know a lot of you wanted to see this and the move in Syria.

Eastern Syria will be open now to Turkish, Russian, and Iranian horseplay.

The Kurds will be wide open to attack by any or all of these three entities.

In Afghanistan, a strengthening of the Taliban there could threaten a nation with nuclear weapons next door.

Folks, this is three D chess.

I hope this works out as well as you thought it would.

I remain very skeptical.

There must be other sources of Rare Earth Minerals that are easier to access, in the western hemisphere.

For starters, it would be great if the Canucks had Yellow Vests who could force Turdeau out, and let a mining-friendly Prime Minister take over.

We never won a thing because winning has been undefined. Time to leave. We never defined winning, never could and never would. We haven’t got the need or the will to figure out what winning is there or how to do it. At least the Afghanis have the guts to stand on principles.
We won’t a nd we have something worth far more to fight for.

Our troops won tactically but we could never lead them to strategic victory. Afghanistan is not known as the graveyard of empires for nothing.

The only way we could change it is total colonization using the British model. I am not too interested in that.

The Russians already had their shot at Afghanistan, I do not think they will bother again. They also had a shot at Egypt during the Soviet days and got out. The cultures are just not compatible.

The last chance for the UN to do anything useful, will be to either protect the Kurds from genocide or take steps to recognize their legitimacy as a PPP (perennially persecuted population), possibly leading to independence.

If they can do all they've done for the Paleostinians, they should do it for the far-more-deserving Kurds.

OTOH, if they leave the Kurds out to dry, the US should permanently defund that pathetic organization.

And most importantly don’t let that repulsive religion get a foothold here, although that may be too late.

A five tour vet I know well says the same things.

We have blunted and worn out our military there.

In the oilfield any place that ended in Stan was a good place to stay out of.

I hope so. I've thought from the beginning, that he should do a weekly address to the nation via YouTube.

That would have gone a long way toward solidifying and even growing his base.

If such measures were legal (i.e. the President wouldn’t be subjected to impeachment, trial and imprisonment or worse), they would already have been used to exterminate the Taliban and win the war in a couple of years or less. The Mongols dominated their conquered territories by using precisely these methods - they killed rebels and all civilians associated with them. More recently, the Chinese are said to have quelled resistance to their invasion of Vietnam in 1979 by resorting to this time-tested method, which is pretty much a repeat of what victorious conquerors have been doing everywhere since at least records started being kept:

https://www.quora.com/If-guerrilla-warfare-is-so-hard-to-beat-why-didnt-more-countries-militaries-revert-to-guerilla-tactics-when-they-were-on-the-verge-of-defeat/answer/Yifeng-Huang-8

[Guerilla warfare can be easily defeated if the attackers are resolute.

Genghis Khan, probably the greatest conquerer ever, never had a problem with guerilla warfare, even though the lands he conquered included Afghanistan. Why? Because his army simply slaughter all civilians, including their babies, who dare to fight against them.

In the Vietnam war, the Americans struggled against the Vietcongs. When China fought Vietnam, China simply romped through North Vietnam (north of Hanoi), transport removable factories/infrastructure back to China while destroying those that they cannot bring back. One crack Vietnamese division that was rushed back from Cambodia wisely decided to settle into prepared defensive positions near Hanoi instead of reinforcing the surrounded troops north of Hanoi. Why didn’t China has problem with Vietcong guerilla fighters?

When I first visited China in the 1990s, a retired veteran bitterly told me that his Major was killed by a ~6 year old Vietnamese kid holding a secret pistol when he was giving out food to the kid. Apparently, this is not an isolated incident. Very soon, they enacted Genghis Khan’s strategy. North Vietnamese villagers encountered were simply labeled as “civilian militia”, treated as combatants and showed no mercy. PLA never encounter anymore guerilla problems because there were no civilians left to provide the guerilla with information, shelter and food!

In the 1980s, there is no internet and no international reporter who has access to report on this. Chinese body counts, which included “civilian militia combatants”, concluded that enemy casualties were in excess of 10 times PLA losses.]
