New York police bill innocent man $4,600 for rectal probe

A US man wrongly suspected of hiding drugs in his colon was reportedly given a rectal probe - and billed for the unwanted examination.
Torrence Jackson said he refused consent for the invasive procedure, and suffered internal injuries as a result.
The hospital sent Mr Jackson, 42, a bill for $4,595.12 (£3,600).
He was stopped in his car by police after failing to signal, police say. Officers found a bag of marijuana and cocaine residue in Mr Jackson's vehicle.
Police officer Anthony Fiorini said Mr Jackson's posture in the car was consistent with someone hiding drugs in his rectum.
Police obtained a court warrant to perform a sigmoidoscopy, using a flexible 8in tube.
After the procedure found no drugs, Mr Jackson was released and said he only learned what doctors had done when he found blood in his underwear. "I felt tampered with," he told the newspaper.
Upon release, the hospital had a debt collectors' agency pursue Mr Jackson over the medical bill.
He refused to pay and the matter was ultimately dropped.

Police officer Anthony Fiorini said Mr Jackson's posture in the car was consistent with someone hiding drugs in his rectum. The amazing part is that some judge agreed with him.

My colonoscopies didnt cost that much!.................... When hospitals can charge patients with no insurance coverage what they want, this is what you get.
The medical profession is after blood from a rock when it comes to people who have no insurance.
It's beyond disgusting what they will charge you for and how much they do.
All to make up for the losses they incur by being forced to provide FREE health care to illegals and public assistance leeches.
As usual, the citizens and taxpayers are screwed.
All that said, the guy should not be carrying drugs around if he wants to stay out of trouble.

A cop says you are sitting too straight, so they force you to take it up the azz, against your will?
Yeah, that’s not an indication of living in a police state. /s

Nobody drives around New York City with drugs shoved up their asses. They may not *drive* around but they certainly take the subway and Metro-North.I see them regularly at Grand Central.

You’re not looking at it the right way. You’re right that the hospital doesn’t expect someone to pay $4600 for getting butt raped by their doctors when it really just cost about (say) $800.
But they EXPECT the bill to be uncollectable and then they get to write it off.
So it’s better to write off $4600 than $800.
Meaning it’s just a legal means of accomplishing tax fraud.

Uh, maybe the guy had to go pretty badly, but was trying to get home to “his” toilet. Pretty much everyone I know had done that - who wants to go to a public toilet when you can go to your own?
Cops were arrogant POSs in this case - and he might have a good lawsuit against them.

Nope. Unless they put him under...which is normally done for sticking a medical device up there...but you’d think that he’d ask why he was being put under, or that he’d have heard them talking about it, etc. Maybe he snorted the evidence, rather than putting it where the sun don’t shine?
