On the 2nd of December, 2018, a 25-year-old man was at home with his girlfriend and a pit bull dog they were fostering. All of them were lying on a bed at about 6 p.m. The dog attacked the man. The man attempted to move the pit bull off of the bed. Instead, the dog bit the man on the left arm, and would not let go. From bostonglobe.com:
In a desperate attempt to end the attack, the man reached for a 9mm handgun he had in his nightstand and shot the dog, police said.
The single shot stopped the attack and the dog died shortly afterwards, police said in the statement. The man is fully licensed to have firearms in Massachusetts.
The man was rushed to Cape Cod Hospital to be treated for his injuries, police said.
Police took the mans handgun, a 12-gauge shotgun, and ammunition found in the home for safekeeping. The dead pit bull was taken away by Yarmouth animal control officers, police said.
It is unknown if the legal gun owner will be charged in the case.

Unfortunately I live in the People’s Republic of Maryland and have no such ability to keep a gun in my car or on my person.
But, the idiots in Baltimore are holding a three day gun buyback this week. If I get the chance, I’m taking a broken down .380 I paid $150 for new. These doofuses are giving $200 for semi automatics.
The local news interviewed a lady who was bringing her 9mm in. She looked at the camera and said she was going to use the money to buy a better gun.
Hard to believe that there once was laws in Massachusetts that penalized persons for NOT being armed.
“Massachusetts is the only state in the nation that still requires all firearms in a home to be locked up when not in use.”
Assachusetts...just like Assstralia.
It was in use.
“...but my wife had moved the ammo while closet cleaning...”
Boy, does that sound familiar.
“Fostering’ a Pit Bull.
Plenty in info right there.
Would be just as smart to have a barrel full of rattlesnakes.
“ALWAYS keep the gun unloaded until ready to use”
I have 2 Kimber 1911 .45cal ACPs, w/ Wilson Combat mags. Have a 2-mag Galco Belt Holster. I daily carry one Kimber and the mag holster. Both are loaded, but round isn’t chambered. Takes >1 sec to chamber a round. “Ready to use” here in PA isn’t a problem. Works for me.
Better to be charged by twelve, than carried by six. Would that this lady had been armed:

Tacstar side saddle shotgun shell keeps shells on the receiver. Good way to keep extra ammo along with shells in the tube.
If you get one, pick the one with the plastic holders, not the nylon loops. The plastic ones will last longer and easy to remove shells.
Yep.
Only good pitbull is a dead pitbull.
A dead pitbull is good all around.
Very handy action, that, or so he tells me.
