Some advertisers say they are leaving conservative host Tucker Carlson's show following his remarks that immigrants could make the U.S. "poorer and dirtier."
It's the latest example of sponsors leaving a Fox News Channel show after controversy, but experts say the flap is likely to blow over. So far, the show's biggest advertisers appear to be sticking with him and his prime-time show, "Tucker Carlson Tonight."
Carlson said last Thursday that there's pressure from "our leaders" to accept immigrants "even if it makes our own country poorer and dirtier and more divided." He added Monday that in the Southwest, "thanks to illegal immigration, huge swaths of the region are covered with garbage and waste that degrade the soil and kill wildlife."
The comments caused a furor on social media. Several advertisers, including the IHOP restaurant chain, personal finance website NerdWallet and Pacific Life insurance, have pulled advertising from the show. (NerdWallet is a content partner of The Associated Press.) SmileDirectClub said it is working with its ad buyers to stop running ads during any political opinion shows.
Fox News Channel said in a statement that "left wing advocacy groups" were using social media to "stifle free speech." The network said it "continues to stand by and work with our advertisers through these unfortunate and unnecessary distractions." Fox added that all advertisers have switched their ads to other shows, so no revenue was lost.
Carlson said he would not back down to criticism.
"We're not intimidated," he wrote . "We plan to try to say what's true until the last day. And the truth is, unregulated mass immigration has badly hurt this country's natural landscape."

Didn’t they change the name of IHOP to IJEB?
They certainly have turned the place into a third world shtthole. Absolutely no doubt about it. It isnt racist, just truth.
I live in an area largely supported by illegal immigration.
In immigrant portions of the city, the city streets are neat and clean, but as soon as you cross the curb onto private property, the homes and businesses look just like Mexico.
In the non-immigrant parts of town, the city streets are neat and clean, but the private businesses and homes are even cleaner.
Taking in illegals does not improve America.
“...And the truth is, unregulated mass immigration has badly hurt this country’s natural landscape.”
Well, probably not the landscape...
I avoid his show because of his repeated dishonest or stupid blame against President Trump.
State Farm was pushing feminism and other social weirdness in the ‘90s.
Immigrants...here we go again.
ILLEGAL ENTRANTS. Now that we have that settled, Mr. Carlson, let’s make one thing perfectly clear: there’s no might or maybe about the United States being impacted by millions of people from Mexico, Central and South America running like cockroaches through our Southern Border who will snap up every part-time job like they’re entitled to it and also spread a vast array of highly contagious and deadly diseases. There’s also the FACT that many of these ILLEGAL ENTRANTS are terrorists, rapists, murderers, gang members, drug cartel members, disease-weaponized ‘mules’, and a goodly portion of these people are bent on planting their various national flags on UNITED STATES SOIL and declaring it their own.
I certainly hope that President Trump will indeed do what he said, in shutting down the government and having our armed forces build the wall. It will get built, get built right, and in a timely manner. And no worries about the “shutting down the government” stuff...just certain things are suspended, not anything of any dire importance. I’d say to him, Mr. President, Sir, don’t do any more talking with the Dems...heck, forget everybody. Most are all turncoats anyway. Just do it.
I told her! She got nasty, so I let one of the workers know
State Farm is not mentioned in the linked article.
Exactly
Why? FWIW, State Farm is not mentioned in the linked article. Do you have some other reason for your statement?
Im at a loss to know why Pacific Life shows the film of a whale, over and over.
The havent had a good marketing idea in decades.
Good riddance!

Your wife needs to live in CA. for 6 months and see for herself what has happened to CA. she will no longer think you are a bigot, she will see the truth you are telling NOTHING bigoted about it just FACTS!!!
Is it arguable that illegal immigrants could make our country richer and cleaner?
These people are like children. I hope they get treated like Dicks who is slowly swirling the drain.
Actually we had a philosophical argument over bigotry vs racism. I say racism is different. Being anti-American or anti-Mexican for example is Bigotry. Being anti-black is racism.
My wife thinks it is all the same thing and equally bad.
LOL In fact she is a bit of a bigot herself. She said the problem now with Colorado, especially Bolder, is all the Californians moving in. And Texans - but I see nothing wrong with Texans myself.
She lived in California going to University in Stockton way back in 1990. Things were probably different then.
"California coastal elites may worry about the oxygen content of water available to a three-inch smelt in the SacramentoSan Joaquin River Delta, but they seem to have no interest in the epidemic dumping of trash, furniture, and often toxic substances throughout Californias rural hinterland. Yesterday, for example, I rode my bike by a stopped van just as the occupants tossed seven plastic bags of raw refuse onto the side of the road.
I rode up near their bumper and said in my broken Spanish not to throw garbage onto the public road. But there were three of them, and one of me. So I was lucky to be sworn at only. I note in passing that I would not drive into Mexico and, as a guest, dare to pull over and throw seven bags of trash into the environment of my host.
In fact, trash piles are commonplace out here composed of everything from half-empty paint cans and childrens plastic toys to diapers and moldy food. I have never seen a rural sheriff cite a litterer, or witnessed state EPA workers cleaning up these unauthorized wastelands."
