FULL TITLE: Spotsylvania, Va., Residents Outraged Over Massive Solar Plant Proposal, About Half the Size of Manhattan
More than 300 residents of rural Spotsylvania County, Virginia gathered at the Spotsylvania Courthouse on Dec. 5 to protest plans for a massive solar energy plant half the size of Manhattan -- which would be built close to residential areas and the historic sites of three Civil War battlefields.
In addition, none of the energy from the plant would go to the Spotsylvania community.

If this was private property (like a farm), then I don’t see what the locals can say about this. If they were cutting down some forest, or taking public land....it’d be different.
To: rktman
Oh, clearing 6500 acres of forest is really going to be helpful to the environment . . .

Those giant solar plants are a nightmare. They kill anything that flies over it and nothing can live under it. Save the earth by destroying it and making it ugly

You are confusing the focused Mirror Power Plant that they have in the CA Desert. Those fry Birds, the Birds that don’t get chopped up by the Windmills.

NIMBY neighbors need to get a life. This is private property and rather clean use of the private property. Would these neighbors prefer a pig or chicken farm?!

To: rktman
How about this? Figure out the revenue potential for the solar farm, raise the taxes of these NIMBY neighbors to compensate the private property owner to not build the solar farm. Seems fair to me.

The great thing about living there, though, would be the ability to throw rocks at the panels.

The mirror/heat type solar energy generation systems make up less than 1% of these generation plants and are located in deserts. This is a solar generation farm using banks of passive electronic solar cells of the kind that are mounted on residential roofs. They bear no danger to birds at all.
