The Boy Scouts of America is mulling declaring bankruptcy amid flagging membership and an avalanche of costly sex abuse allegations, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Leaders have hired Chicago law firm Sidley Austin for help in a potential Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, sources told the outlet.
The organization has been fending off lawsuits over alleged abuse, including one filed by four former scouts who called the club a “pedophile magnet” and alleged that they were molested by scoutmaster Waldron Ackerman between 1974 and 1976.
The organization has reportedly lost two-thirds of its members — some 4 million boys — since the 1970s.

We had a homosexual scout master in my Iowa troop in the mid-late ‘50’s. He was eventually murdered for his troubles. No lawsuits, arrests, convictions. Remains a cold case to the best of my knowledge.

That really is a shame. My kids all belonged to the Cub Scouts, although even way back then the Boy Scout organization was starting to deteriorate.
One of my boys became a Scout Master, and my wife and I attended the Eagle Scout ceremonies of his two sons. They had a connection with local High Anglican Church, and a Catholic Church, and still preserved the original values. But I’m afraid it will all go down the drain. It’s been coming on for a long time, although they managed to keep their troop in line much longer than most.
