Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned Tuesday in front of the White House that there will be a government shutdown if President Donald Trump refuses to budge from his demand for $5 billion of wall funding. He spoke after the tense meeting with President Trump.
The bottom line is simple. The President made clear that he wants a shutdown. His position, if he sticks to his position for a $5 billion wall, he will get no wall and he will get a shutdown. The bottom line is very, very simple. That is, we want border security. We offered him border security. But Americans know that the wall, not paid for by Mexico anymore, is not the way to border security.
Schumer insisted that Democrats "have offered" border security funding and warned of what he and Pelosi have termed a "Trump shutdown."
"This Trump shutdown, this temper tantrum that he seems to throw, will not get him his wall and will hurt a lot of people," Schumer said.

I noticed that Pelosi and Schumer didnt give Trump much eye contact.
In all past shutdowns, the most consecutive days were 16. The period in 95-96 was 27 days, but it wasn’t consecutive.
In this case, Trump isn’t kidding when he might suggest a longer period. He won’t have a problem in going six weeks. I can tell you from the 3.5 years I lived in the DC area and worked around federal employees....approximately 20-percent of the locals there on fed work are not capable of going past 30 days of no pay. A lot of these folks are taking every single penny of their fed-pay and paying on hefty mortgages and two car payments, with college debt tanking out their income. If you went two months...there’s probably 2,000 fed-workers with no ability to cover mortgages and they’d be getting warning letters on failing payments.
The problem for CNN and the anti-Trump media, this would consume the whole message and the legal proceedings that they want to start upon....would be stalled. You could be looking at four months of a shutdown....maybe longer. I don’t think Nancy or Chuckie can go back to their voters and say they agreed to the Wall....so six months of a shutdown is fairly possible.
If the government SHUTS DOWN the Dimms will get the BLAME... so “shut ‘er down!”
Good.
All Pelosi did was babble like a brain dead moron and Schumer found his shoes fascinating.
Government shut down 2008-2016: Non essential federal employees get a paid vacation. National parks close, popular D.C. monuments are barricaded. It lasts a couple of weeks, and when over federal employees are back on the job and get paid for time off.
What kind of threat is this?
RE: popular D.C. monuments are barricaded
Doesn’t the President have discretion over this? I think he can keep these open.

It was a new thing that happened only during the last administration. I’m still scratching my head on how it saved money.
Absolutely.
If Trump got the better of multiple NYC mayors, what makes wussy Schumer think he can win?
Upchuck Schumer would rather spend hundreads or billions of dollars servicing illegal alians than spend 5 billion on a wall that would save the taxpayers hundreads of billions of dollars.
Dollars that wont Be spent on illegal alians. Those dollars are better spent on our own elderly and poor citizens.
What ‘blame’ for the ‘shutdown’? We have about 7 times the goobermint we need, so shedding 30% of 10% or whatever is no more than a good start [barely].
Good. Let’s do it. And if a civil war breaks out (unlikely, but let’s go with it), it would just be speeding up the inevitable.
No, we are not raising $60b a month in tariffs. It’s roughly 2b a month in incremental tariffs (10% on $200b in trade annually).
Especially now that we dont have a a$$hole in the Oval Office that will shut down parks and war memorials. Maybe PDJT can shut down payments to planned Parenthood or acorn?
