With Nick Ayers bowing out of the opportunity to replace WH Chief of Staff John Kelly, who is departing at the end of this year, the question of who will be next to run the show is a Monday morning political obsession in D.C. Who could it be? Well there are a few names that have floated to the top of everyones lists.
They are, in no particular order:
Steve Mnuchin, current Trump Treasury Secretary
Mick Mulvaney, current Trump OMB Director
Matt Whitaker, current Trump Acting Attorney General
Rep. Mark Meadows, Chair of the House Freedom Caucus
Randy Levine, President of the New York Yankees
David Bossie, Former Trump Deputy Campaign Manager, President of Citizens United, co-author of new Trump book with
Corey Lewandowski, Former Trump Campaign Manager, Current Book Tour Haver, Ubiquitous Cable News Guy
Those are the names that came up since Sunday. Lets analyze them.*
Among those singled out, sources tell me Steven Mnuchin and Mick Mulvaney have already passed on the job, and that Meadows has mostly passed. Mulvaneys name is omni-present when theres a Trump opening, but hes probably staying where he is, Mnuchin wouldnt touch the Chief of Staff job with a ten foot poor person, and Meadows would be trading down.
Lewendowsky is an excellent spokesman. He would be perfect.
Admiral Mike Rogers
Sarah Palin.....................The Left would go berserk................er........
Which one has run anything? That’s the one to pick. WH COS is like the CEO of a startup company where everyone thinks they should be able to run into the boss’s office, put their feet on his desk, and BS about what “we” should be doing.
We need a strong administrator like Gen. Kelly, not a legislator or “spokesman”. How often did you hear Gen. Kelly “speak”? That’s Sarah Sander’s job.
I’ll take Bossie. I’ve always liked the guy.
Great choice. He would be at the top of my list.
I’ve heard this through the grapevine that this is a possibility.
“Which one has run anything? Thats the one to pick. WH COS is like the CEO...”
I completely agree. You need someone to keep things moving (keeps the trains running on time), protects the president’s schedule and who can keep problems off Trump’s desk.
Rather than CEO, I suggest the position is more like a COO-Chief Operating Officer.
I was disappointed, but not surprised, to hear that Mulvaney won’t be taking the job. Not sure about Bossie or Lewandowski. I like them both and, if either were to take the job, I would hope for nothing but excellent performance.
I’m sure other candidates for the job are being given serious consideration and I believe Trump will find and make a solid choice.
One name I heard mentioned this morning was Bill Shine, formerly of Fox News and currently serving as Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications. I really don’t know much about Shine, but it sounds like he might have the skill set necessary to be Trump’s right-hand man.
If anybody doesn’t think it will be either Mulvaney or Meadows then they have not been paying attention. The president promotes from within (Pompeo, Nielsen, Mulvaney once already) when someone has proven they can get things done and work within the structure he has set up in the White House. Meadows is so close to being a member of the administration as the House Freedom Caucus liaison that this would essentially be a promotion from within. Bossie, MAYBE, because he already worked with Trump on the campaign but I’d be shocked if it wasn’t already someone who has proven they can handle both the media that will try to destroy them and the demands of the job. Many of the people the administration has gotten rid of (Tillerson, Scott Pruitt) proved that they not only could not handle the media but just weren’t very effective at their jobs. They were both replaced by people within the administration (Pompeo, Andrew Wheeler) who were far more effective and didn’t give the administration’s enemies in the media any unnecessary ammunition.
He is currently working of Team8, the Israeli cybersecurity firm so Trump wouldn't be pulling someone from an important job in the administration or Congress.
Steve Mnuchin seems excellently competent at his job and quite satisfied to be there. Why move him? That would be insane.
Admiral Rogers is the guy who warned Trump ahead of time about the Deep State Conspiracy poised to prevent his taking office.
He has more than proven himself.
There is no way Trump will move Shine out of the communications director role which went essentially unfilled for two years before he came on board. The only other MODERATELY effective communications director the White House had before Shine was former Trump campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks who essentially took Shine’s old job at Fox News so there’s no way she’s coming back for several reasons. He is where he belongs leading the communications effort.
No one wants the job. It’s career suicide, and probably leads to indictments.
Those right with God will do fine.
Pardon Mike Flynn, then, hire him for chief of staff. Pay him enough to get his house back.
I just read a Twitter today from Pastor Darrell Scott that he might throw his hat in the ring...
....and while I like him A LOT!!!
.....I like your suggestion better!
