Mother of all white flight to hit NY schools and De Blasio pretends he had nothing to do with it

New York is facing an educational disaster. Mayor Bill De Blasio's socialist plan to end meritocratic entry to New York's famed specialty schools - in performing arts, hard sciences, engineering, academic achievement - in the name of racial equality, is about to trigger a huge white flight. And not just white flight, Asian flight. Here's an excellent report from New York Post columnist Karol Markowitz:

In a push to improve diversity at District 15 middle schools in Brooklyn, Mayor de Blasio last week approved a plan to remove admission standards at all of them.

and

The announcement of the changes featured some blatant doublespeak. “The District 15 middle-school diversity plan will remove screens from all middle schools and will prioritize 52 percent of sixth-grade seats for students from low-income families, English-language learners and students in temporary housing.” Got that? They will remove screens and replace them with other screens.

The removal of standards won’t just be academic. Schools that previously focused on music or the arts will no longer be able to audition students. Students who have dedicated their lives to learning to play the cello will be in classes alongside kids who have no interest in the arts at all.

Does that sound revolting or what?

Imagine being an Asian student or a parent out in some place like Queens and working hard as heck to get into one of these good schools as the kid's ticket out of Archie Bunker land and being told the kid is not good enough, solely owing to his inability to 'contribute' to the racial balance. For him, it's back to the crappy public schools with the mold and the tumbledown bricks,

This is terrible. People looking for talent for their dance troupe, or stage work, or music will look at the name of the school that the applicant came from; and, if they recognize the name of the school (Julliard comes to mind) they will believe that the applicant actually knows something about music. However, now they can't actually know if the applicant knows anything about the field that they are applying for.

What if this sort of thing had been in place earlier. Would there have been a YoYo Ma? Would Robin Williams have been accepted at Julliard?

Chicago system losing students

Considering, that every Monday morning, we are given a death toll from the weekend in Chicago; I imagine that they are losing students.

I know, I know, it is "white" flight.

There is a reason why increasing diversity ALWAYS means removing or reducing standards. Diversity is NOT a strength, it is an excuse for replacing the best with the second rate. We cannot stay on top by promoting the “good enough”.

They tried the bussing issue when I was a kid. Parents raised holy hell and it was shot down. I remember my folks saying we’d be sent to private schools if ghetto trash was gonna show up to eff up our education. I was 10 and remember it vividly. By the time I graduated hs we had one, only one black at our school.

If you have ever seen a commercial for Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) there is a line that states “The world equally distributes talent but not opportunity”. That is the kind of stupidity the left promotes. It leads to the less able thinking they are being discriminated against when they are simply not as talented or driven as others.

Was on a train in the Alps on the Italian-Swiss border. The due to the mountains, the train’s tracks wound tin and out of Switzerland and Italy on a random basis.

You could always tell which side of the border you were by the condition of the farms houses and farms.
The farms and houses in Switzerland were nicely landscaped , immaculately maintained, freshly painted in attractive paint schemes, and all the farm equipment was well organized, properly stored and in good condition.

The farms and houses in Italy were very run down, the landscaping haphazard, the houses had had stucco peeling off the walls with faded, dirty paint and decaying wood with faded paint peeling off , all the farm equipment was strewn about and in poor, rusty condition.

Even if the houses were a few hundred feet of each other and separated by an invisible border

That court ordered LAUSD bussing is what blew up the San Fernando Valley. Families that could move headed for Orange County leaving large parts of the Valley to be colonized by Mexico.

People forget why liberals are despised by the people they have treated like pawns.

No, Pasadena is not rich. Busing destroyed the schools for ALL of the students. Those who could afford to, fled.

I don’t think so. This was in the mid to late ‘70s and the illegal alien invasion wasn’t yet on anyone’s radar.

The soon to be vacant housing in the SFV may have helped encourage illegals to move here, but the motivation of the judicial overlords was the usual compulsory racial integration that they had been forcing on school systems all over the country. And the reaction of affected families in the Valley was to move away.

There was probably more damage done to communities by liberal judges making godlike social engineering rulings than there was damage done by criminals.

Pasadena is a mix, it has some very wealthy neighborhoods along its perimeter.
