As the final weeks of the GOP-controlled Congress draw to a close, pro-life voters look on with great disappointment at the Republican politicians who failed to follow through on their most crucial promise: to defund Planned Parenthood. In about a month, Democrats will take over the House of Representatives and any hope of stripping the abortion giant of federal funding will pass away.
With precious little time left in the lame-duck session, GOP congressional leaders have chosen to ignore the persistent urgings of pro-life leaders. Just last week, leaders from Live Action, Students for Life America, the Susan B. Anthony List, Heritage Foundation and the March for Life sat down with White House officials to remind them of the paramount campaign promise that catapulted this administration to victory.
Their instructions for President Donald Trump were clear: veto any budget proposal that includes funding for Planned Parenthood.
In separate letters sent to the president, Live Action President Lila Rose and Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins pleaded with Trump not to let millions of pro-life Americans down by compromising on what is for many the number-one reason they voted Republican.
While Trump has threatened to veto a proposal that compromises on his agenda, House Republicans have made it clear that they will not cede ground when it comes to Planned Parenthood, according to Politico. Alice Miranda Ollstein notes that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz briefly tried and failed to rally support for one last bid to push through Planned Parenthood cuts, Obamacare repeal and other conservative priorities, but most of his Republican colleagues dismissed these concerns amid fears of a government shutdown over Trumps border wall.
They had two years to defund Planned Parenthood, and they failed, Kristan Hawkins, whose organization Students for Life has campaigned for and helped fund pro-life GOP candidates, said, according to Politico. Its a huge frustration. We worked so hard to elect supposedly these pro-life Republican officials, and we expected results.
In light of GOP politicians expressed fears of a government shutdown, Conservative Reviews Chris Pandolfo offers some pro-life perspective:
"Planned Parenthood, the nations top provider of abortions, literally rips apart babies in the womb and sells their body parts for profit. American taxpayers are subsidizing that evil right now through the U.S. Congress. And pro-life conservatives are expected to tolerate and fund that abominable organization because shutting down 17 percent of the federal governments operations might be politically risky?"
Pandolfo argues that the only way to ensure Planned Parenthood loses funding is to shut down the government indefinitely until this happens.
The Democrats and two openly pro-abortion Republicans, Sens. Lisa Murkowksi, R-Alaska, and Susan Collins, R-Maine, must be forced to choose between surrendering on this policy or keeping the federal government shut down indefinitely, and they must be forced to go to voters with their choice, he writes. Short of having that fight, there is nothing Republicans can do without a majority in the House of Representatives and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate to enact conservative policy.
Surely at the command (mouth) of the LORD it came upon Judah, to remove them from His sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done, and also for the innocent blood which he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; AND THE LORD WOULD NOT FORGIVE. (All caps mine) 2 Kings 24:3 & 4
Judah (2 southern tribes) was invaded by the Babylonians and Israel (10 northern tribes) conquered by the Assyrians.
RINOS are Uniparty apparatchiks who happen to get you to vote for them by lying to you with conservative memes they have no intention of implementing.
Would get in the way of the permanent gravy train.
Unforgivable. Cocky, arrogant sobs. How many ran their campaigns on defunding PP?
That’s why the whole blooming system is going to be brought down.
The problem is getting citizens of Maine and Alaska to support real conservatives in their primaries. Aside from that, there isn’t jack we can do.
Ryan should have been thrown out on his ear the moment he announced his “resignation”.
He also kept his campaign donations this cycle and didn’t spend them to help other members.
40 retirements finished the job.
Pretty naïve to expect GOP to defund anything.
Get this out there on the street and see how your liberal friends react to it. We may someday see DEMOCRATS push to eliminate Planned Parenthood funding.
The GOP is a lying fraudulent deep-state organization. The majority of them don’t give a damn about the Republic. Only about their self-interests.
So that the new House can refund PP and do a victory lap?
Unfortunately instead of embracing solid conservative women, Rinos have been pushing affirmative action in their own ranks. Rinos are the racists within the GOP
The GOP fails at everything. We can vote for Republicans, conservatives, or both and the result is always the same. We get Democrats and their communism running America. That’s why we are in the pickle we’re in... What will it take? I think I know but not sure we have the steel in our collective spines. I sure haven’t come my own conclusion on that, yet.
More than that, they have FAILED the Constitution.
They belong in the 9th circle of hell.
So, we can defund nothing out of fear of what the next con-gre$$ sees as victory? That's mighty GOPe of ya!
Promises mean nothing to Republicans once they are elected. They are corrupt to the core and cannot be believed or trusted. NEVER AGAIN!
GOP fails...
Stop right there. That sums it up.
Conservatives have a hissy fit when they don’t prevail. The basic fact is that politics is the art of the possible.
Taking the money away is deemed not possible.
This is why they lost. The GOPe is no different than yet he rats.
Does anyone think it's a coincidence that the two GOP senators who openly support Planned Parenthood happen to represent two of the "whitest" states in the U.S.?
