I cant breathe were the final words uttered by Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi after he was set upon by a Saudi hit squad at the countrys consulate in Istanbul, a source briefed on the investigation into his killing told CNN on Sunday.
The source, who has read a translated transcript of an audio recording of Khashoggis painful last moments, said it was clear that the killing on October 2 was no botched rendition attempt, but the execution of a premeditated plan to murder the journalist.
During the course of the gruesome scene, the source describes Khashoggi struggling against a group of people determined to kill him.
He repeatedly says, I cant breathe. The transcript notes the sounds of Khashoggis body being dismembered by a saw, as the alleged perpetrators are advised to listen to music to block out the sound.
According to the source, the transcript suggests that a series of phone calls are made, briefing them on progress. Turkish officials believe the calls were made to senior figures in Riyadh.
Some of the details in the transcript seen by CNNs source have emerged in previous reports of the recordings content, but Sundays report is the fullest account of the transcript that has so far been published.

If CNN reported it, it probably isn’t true. Khashoggi probably isn’t dead, either. Where’s the body?
Correct.
I wonder how the “source” determined that the sound of a saw was coming from the recording. And why would there be a recording?
What makes you think he did not have a “trial”? a SAUDI system trial under Sharia or their justice code administered by the ruling tribe
You think they have a justice system like ours?
If they did maybe they would have just droned him
Obama and Brennan did to over 3000 people including US citizens abroad
with NO TRIAL
Saudi Arabia (and Turkey and Pakistan and the other Islamic Countries, China, and many Asian countries and many African countries) imprison torture and execute people every day
under SAUDI LAW and THEIR LAW
We may not like SAUDI LAW (heavily based on Sharia and ancient tribal and monarchic privilege) or other countries’ laws
but that's what it is
So please climb down off the high horse about why this one case deserves our wrath, breaking diplomatic relations with a strategic country whose foreign policies are complicated and treacherous BUT who have helped us and our allies in many cases, and WTH you think we have the right to DO about their law?
Last week and last month and last year a woman was probably stoned or beheaded for being raped, a thief was mutilated,a Chinese Falun Gong prisoner was shot in the head so his organs could be harvested, and homosexuals were tied together and thrown off buildings or hung from special cranes in Tehran
What did WE do about it? What did our media SAY about it?
Where in the world do WE interfere in other country laws and where do you draw a line?
“Acceptable and humane”
Boy are you being played
We don't even know what set off the SAG against this guy but we do know he was a subversive islamist al Qaeda sympathizer and bag man for many years.
No he was NOT an “American” nor was he a “journalist” because something he wrote was published in the WaPo or NYT. Under that standard Osama Bin laden was a “journalist”
Did you even notice how little we are now hearing about Iran and sanctions and the street revolutions there since MBS and by extension the entire SAG became bad guys?
What a coinky dink.
YOU are being played.
If you tears want to be jerked pay close attention to the justice system a work today in the country of our ally Turkey
I'm sure Erdogan will say the body was disposed of in a Jewish cannibalistic ceremony, if he hasn't already.
IIRC, there was some story about the execution being recorded from or by a cell phone, but I think it’s more likely the Turks had simply “bugged” the Embassy.
More straightforward is the analysis of the audio - if the sounds are fairly clear, use of a saw might be obvious. If not so clear, a little audio forensics might be in order. The equivalent of any State Police lab in the US, or whoever they might contract out to, could likely handle it.
Hey, TF, you are better versed on this stuff than most FReepers, including myself:
1) Agreed, it’s not saying much, but SA still has more credence than the Turks.
2) That said, if as suggested on FR and elsewhere that maybe SA had a legit reason, as they saw it, to take out Khashoggi, why do they not simply say so? Or, they could fabricate a reason. (As also noted on this thread, we have droned thousands: The explanation each time that the departed was a terrorist, happened to be in the same room as the target terrorist, etc., generally seems to be sufficient.) Ok, yeah, this guy was a “journalist” opposed to MBS, but how many of such, with suspect “friends”, no less, are out there dissing the Prince, fomenting trouble, etc.? Quite a few, I’ll wager. Have any others been killed?
3) MSB’s usual moves against opponents don’t seem to involve sending a large squad to chop them up. Ye, I know it’s the ME, but I keep thinking “Somebody must have really, REALLY wanted Khashoggi dead.” But (going back to “2” above), no one says why —this in a culture where most any reason is often sufficient.
I keep thinking there is something more to all this that we don’t know...

Was Eric garner made Time Magazine’s Person of the year, too? And has Kashoggi been awarded his posthumous Nobel prize, yet?
Bttt
Noted - got it - thanks!
I think the Prince is evil, also, and S.A. is responsible for much terrorism, but if we only had relations with kind hearted gentlefolk who have only our good at heart, we’d be a de facto isolationist country. In the decaying world in which we live, there are very few good guys. Our own cia has taken out people with whom our government has disagreements. Granted, they’re usually perceived as bad guys, but an assassination is an assassination. If Kashoggi was recorded saying, “I can’t breathe”, it sounds as if he was either given poison, or was strangled. Not a good way to die, but not the same as being tortured to death, one limb at a time, with bone saws. I don’t think that’s all he would be heard saying, if he was hacked to death, which is the impression many want to give. Their actions were pretty stupid, though. Did they think the world would be okay with them cutting up a body and carrying it out in pieces in briefcases, rather than dragging him out in handcuffs? Either the Prince is a sadistic madman, or he’s a sadistic madman who wants to intimidate his enemies. Sounds like too much inbreeding going on in the royal house of Saud.
