Dallas - Jimmie Dale Gilmore
Did you ever see Dallas from a DC-9 at night?
Well Dallas is a jewel, oh yeah, Dallas is a beautiful sight.
And Dallas is a jungle but Dallas gives a beautiful light.
Did you ever see Dallas from a DC-9 at night?
That's Jimmie Dale Gilmore on the left, aka 'smokie'

#40. How about Meatloaf and “Dashbord Light”?

#46. Darn. Musically you’re older than dirt! Paul Whiteman’s Orchestra and a 1933 piece. That’s gonna take the prize tonight for the oldest title on an LP.

#142. YES! “Dallas” by Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Saw him in the “Flatlanders” play at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Va, many years ago. That song rang my musical bells for weeks. Unfortunately I don’t hear it played anywhere today.

Wow, can’t believe it too, 45 posts to finally get “Darkmess, Darkness.” It was the first song that popped into my head.
I loved The Youngbloods in that era. Jesse Colin Young Had a good solo career after leaving the group. I especially liked his first solo album.

I first heard the song as sung by Joe Ely, (another Flatlander). Liked his version a lot, until I heard JDGs version. The way JDG sings it gives it an entirely different feel. I saw him with Dave Alvin (the Blasters) earlier this year. if they are coming into your area you need to go see them.
Also if you are a fan of Jimmie Dale Gilmore, check out his rendition of Mack the Knife. Its not for everyone, but it is very interesting.
