What incoming CENTCOM commander said about Afghanistan’s military is reason enough to get out
Great Power War ^ | 12/5/18 | Jon Dougherty

Afghanistan’s military and security forces are losing personnel at an unsustainable rate and could not remain intact for long if U.S. forces were withdrawn, according to Marine Lt. Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr, the incoming CENTCOM commander.

In testimony before Congress, the Marine three-star also said that the U.S. military and Taliban are “in a stalemate” — which was the most optimistic portion of his description of the current security situation in America’s longest-running war.

His assessment comes on the heels of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s statement earlier this month that nearly 29,000 military and security personnel have been killed since 2015.

During his confirmation hearing, McKenzie said the most important thing moving forward was to improve the way the Afghan security apparatus recruited and trained combat personnel.

What would stop a controlling Taliban from hosting the next bin laden?

As I recall we went into Afghanistan because they aided abetted Bin Laden as they planned the 911 attacks. So we had a vested issue in keeping the Taliban in power there. Should they return and participate in another movie terrorist attack I think we’d blame our keDers for failing to act.

However the will to win that I refer to is nit the conflict I’m talking about. Whether to stay, or withdraw, or something in between are largely tactical decisions. I’m asking if we have the will to defend Western Culture. Muslim extremists seem much more highly motivated.

we knew about Bin Laden long time. Clinton could have snatched him or killed him. There are potential bin ladens in most muslim shitholes. Where do you want to start?

Iran is million times the threat of any future bin laden and it is real and now. Afghan is a waste of lives and resources. You aren’t going to defeat the taliban. They have religious fervor on their side. We have no fervor. What will you say when they test their bomb. Let’s go to Afhgan and find baby bin?

There is aways some cowboy who wants to put boots on the ground. WE just can’t help, ourselves.

They have the old home field advantage. To defeat them, you would have to nuke the Pakis so bad that it would take twenty years to get it back together. And before you leave, you would have to kill all the Afghan males from about 10 and up so it would take at least half a generation until they start breeding again.

In the case of Rome's conflict with Carthage, and the Israelites conflict with the Canaanites, it took a war of complete extermination, followed by re-colonization with new peoples.

I get extremely torn by what to do with Afghanistan.

Part of me is worried about what seems dishonorable to the U.S. troops who have already died or been wounded there - to just get out, and part of me seriously believes that Afghanistan does not have a culture among a majority of its people upon which a true victory over the Taliban can be built.

I fear we are throwing good money after bad, yet I aslo have a sinking pit in my stomach thinking about picking up and leaving a battle so many Americans have already sacrificed for. What can we, what must we say to them? “Sorry” does not seem to satisfy.

"...it has to be won in Pakistan."

Pakistan must be de-fanged and dismembered. The world, and Afghanistan, will be better off.
