A photo of George HW Bush's service dog lying downbeat besides the casket of his old master on Sunday has spread across social media, causing an outpouring of emotion.

Bush's son Jeb, Governor of Florida, retweeted the photo, with the simple words: "Sully has the watch."

Abigail Ogle, KOCO News anchor, tweeted: "Sully, the service dog of President George H.W. Bush, keeping watch over his best friend. Rest In Peace, 41. Good boy, Sully."

This lady’s animal is highly trained and the training costed over $20k. She says it can predict when she is about to have a seizure.

“I put this behavior into the same category as Stolen Honor or Stolen Valor.”

Is that as in -— BLUMENTHAL, or KERRY ? McLAME ?

Seriously. A lot of time and money goes into training these animals. When the person being helped dies ... well, putting a bullet through the dog’s head isn’t the first concern that pops to mind

Sorta like Clintoon in 1994 at the cemetery near Omaha Beach? What’s your point?

More fabricated “fake” news. I’m sure the dog will find a great new home and the photo is nice, but meaningless.

Extend some finger energy on your mouse and Google “Prescott Bush - Nazi Germany”

‘Funny thing that “God-dog” stuff.’

from the Late Anglo-Saxon ‘docga’...a rare term, ‘hund’ whence our current word hound stems, was more common...

Bush is the first president to die since Reagan.

Ford went in 2006.

Sully first came on the Bush scene in late June fresh out of American Vet Dogs (an org that trains service dogs to assist military veterans and first responders in various aspects). His arrival was widely covered in various media. He even has his own Instagram account.

I did too at first and think he gets overlooked because he was non-elected, anti-climatic, unassuming and relatively short tenured. He certainly didn’t seem to receive the revering funeral coverage of Reagan, Bush or even Kennedy or McCain.

Sully is from Smithtown Long Island.
He is a New Yorker. The Bush family wanted to keep him but the president wanted him to help amputees. Sully will be returning to Long Island for several weeks of training before he begins his next assignment.
I love dogs.

Have you tried a spray bottle with water? A spritz to the face seems to stop a lot of unwanted behaviors quickly. If that works, maybe enlist a friend or two to help by bringing the bottle in the house with them and squirting her when she starts to jump.

I admire you for sticking to your guns rearding caging her. When people put their dogs outside, in another room, or in a kennel for my visits, I make a point of thanking them. More dog owners than not show consideration. Unfortunately the near-misses are what you notice most.

My parents’ dog was a chihuahua.

We have tried everything. She’s just a little nuts. lol She gets so excited when someone comes she just can’t help herself. If we have guests that stay I use baby gates to keep her out of the rooms we are in. I just had a friend stay for a week. I’m lucky that our house is big enough and divided enough I can use the gates. For short visits she either goes outside or in her cage.
