Microsoft is the most valuable publicly traded U.S. company, surpassing Apple for the title. Microsoft passed Apple in market cap again during intraday trading Friday, after jockeying for the top spot for most of the week. Microsoft surpassed Apple for seconds or minutes at a time all week, but Apple consistently beat out Microsoft in market valuation at market close. At Friday's close, Microsoft held an implied market valuation of $851.2 billion, based on an outstanding share count of 7,676,218,736 shares as of Oct. 19, according to the company's most recent SEC filing. Apple's market valuation, based on an outstanding share count of 4,745,398,000 shares as of October 26, 2018, lagged just behind at $847.4 billion. Apple sells mostly--but not all--hardware/software products to consumers and business end users.
Microsoft sells mostly--but not all--operating systems, software and services to businesses and end users.
Microsoft doesn't sell much computer hardware. Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. sells the hardware. In Apple's model, ONLY Apple can sell you hardware their operating systems run on.
I'm glad both are doing well. That still means MORE money to Americans. To be honest, I do a lot of work for Microsoft, and business has really been great these past few months. I know it won't last forever, so I am socking it away.
Apple has 300,000 employees in China, according to a Wall Street Journal article I saw a while back. No idea how many foreign employees Microsoft has, but when Apple has that many employees somewhere else, I don’t consider Apple to be an American company, just a renter with an American mailing address.
I called this a little more than a year ago when I bailed out of Apple stock (about 6 months early).
Tim Cook doesn’t know what to do with the company and they’ve run out of ideas.
MS is only ahead now because of sheer market cap but Windows 10 is a dead OS. More and more people are moving away from it (and Apple should be gaining customers here but, again, Tim Cook is dropping the ball here and ignoring the mac books or continuing to press them as luxury devices) and MS has no other business but to try to shore up PCs which businesses are moving further and further away from (shifting to cloud services with chromebooks or laptops of any flavor)
as a whole the tech industry is dying except for Amazon as the rest all care about data collection and selling your information to the highest bidder - not providing technical solutions to the customer.
GREAT!! HE JUST HATES CHRISTIANS!! :)
WHAT A RELIEF!!
That POS fruit.
Christians don’t want to make pizza for a gay wedding? Destroy the whole state!!
BTW, who has pizza at a wedding?
soooo there's that.
our two more profitable companies, one spies on us and the other sells us (pretty good) $75 items made with slave labor... for $1000 a pop
“BTW, who has pizza at a wedding?”
The Podesta Brothers?
I read somewhere that Microsoft was moving out of the operating system business and into cloud computing. Any idea what company might replace them for PC operating systems?
This is what I meant about the Microsoft vs Apple business models.
Very little of Microsoft sales are found in Windows 10 or the other two supported client operating systems (Windows 8.X and 7).
The consumer experience is there, but mostly Microsoft is winning with cloud services (Azure, O365, Intune, EMS, etc), Servers, SQL Server, Dynamics, etc.
99% of these things are business services, where Microsoft is making money by the fistful.
Now they are making a big partnership with VMware to provide and enhance cloud services with vCenter VMs. That's millions of VMs...
Hey I’m Italian!!! :)
MAYBE little mini pizzas if the couple is BROKE.
But Italian weddings I’ve been to cost anywhere from 50k to 150k.
No little pizzas :)
And ALWAYS the Tarantella :)
It’s true.
They’re even ready to launch a cloud-based client OS. You only need a way to get to the Internet: Tablet, Smart Television, etc.
This OS will follow you anywhere in the world and never go down or crash, as it is constantly replicated and backed-up.
It will connect to local printers, devices like USB drives to store your own data, etc., but the OS powered computer is ready to be replaced.
Ill agree on office365 - but not cloud services. Theyre about neck and neck with Google (and Oracle is gearing up) but AWS has a massive commanding lead.
Apple could easily become the portal to the cloud with their devices but Tim Cook doesnt seem to get it.
Actually Microsoft is a cloud software company now (still the other things exist too). But their big competitor is now Amazon cloud services.
Trump should just tell them they aren’t forcing Microsoft to fire them. They can go back home and work remotely for all Trump cares. But they can’t do it inside the US.
I just read your profile, and It’s a shame that you’re so far from me and my company.
I try to hire veterans who were in that field during their run. I.T. people who can handle mission-sensitive and critical systems.
I hope you’re not going to retire from the field anytime soon !
Microsoft sucks politically because they are in Seattle, Washington, a wretched hive of Leftist, liberal scum and villainy.
For Tech, almost every company is located in such schittholes, as Trump says.
You should hear the crap they give me when they find out I’m from Alabama.
Actually, I use that to my advantage, the dum bass snowflakes!
I know it sucks. Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft are all extreme liberals.
