Before I start an Apple/Microsoft thread war, do note that the while both companies are technology giants, their business models are slightly different.

Apple sells mostly--but not all--hardware/software products to consumers and business end users.

Microsoft sells mostly--but not all--operating systems, software and services to businesses and end users.

Microsoft doesn't sell much computer hardware. Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. sells the hardware. In Apple's model, ONLY Apple can sell you hardware their operating systems run on.

I'm glad both are doing well. That still means MORE money to Americans. To be honest, I do a lot of work for Microsoft, and business has really been great these past few months. I know it won't last forever, so I am socking it away.

Apple has 300,000 employees in China, according to a Wall Street Journal article I saw a while back. No idea how many foreign employees Microsoft has, but when Apple has that many employees somewhere else, I don’t consider Apple to be an American company, just a renter with an American mailing address.

Tim Cook to give keynote address at anti-Semitism and anti-hate summit in New York.
Soooo, there is that.

I called this a little more than a year ago when I bailed out of Apple stock (about 6 months early).

Tim Cook doesn’t know what to do with the company and they’ve run out of ideas.

MS is only ahead now because of sheer market cap but Windows 10 is a dead OS. More and more people are moving away from it (and Apple should be gaining customers here but, again, Tim Cook is dropping the ball here and ignoring the mac books or continuing to press them as luxury devices) and MS has no other business but to try to shore up PCs which businesses are moving further and further away from (shifting to cloud services with chromebooks or laptops of any flavor)

as a whole the tech industry is dying except for Amazon as the rest all care about data collection and selling your information to the highest bidder - not providing technical solutions to the customer.

our two more profitable companies, one spies on us and the other sells us (pretty good) $75 items made with slave labor... for $1000 a pop

I read somewhere that Microsoft was moving out of the operating system business and into cloud computing. Any idea what company might replace them for PC operating systems?

Actually Microsoft is a cloud software company now (still the other things exist too). But their big competitor is now Amazon cloud services.

I just read your profile, and It’s a shame that you’re so far from me and my company.

I try to hire veterans who were in that field during their run. I.T. people who can handle mission-sensitive and critical systems.

I hope you’re not going to retire from the field anytime soon !

The most creative minds are in tech.

All the tech companies which are mainly based out of Silicon Valley would be as a whole, 10th in value in the world if considered a country. Whether you like it or not. technology is very important in all aspects including R&D.

During transitions you might get product saturation or software overload but without innovation the sector dies.
