"Opioid consumption in the medical 'RETAIL SECTOR' per year and per capita,......" Uh, so what was it the docs against glocks were saying again? What? Hello? Is this thing on? Of course you notice "they" place "gun violence" before car crashes and aids. Then of course if you remove the suicide factor numbers in the firearm figures, it falls even lower. What if we added the "medical misadventure" deaths? Were would the docs fall then?

The main reason is because the Mob and squishy RINOs are keeping the opioid superhighway from Mexico wide open.

Why are more Americans than ever dying from drug overdoses?

Because we now have a society where when you don't like the way you feel YOU TAKE SOMETHING.

The US medical sector ranks second in the world for opioid use

Calling again for ‘Captain Obvious’. Way to many prescriptions for drugs in general.

At my place of employment, we do a drug screen for new hires. About 20% fail initially because of prescription drugs, usually painkilllers. As a side note, two of our employees, both on opiods for back pain committed suicide in the last two years.

maybe docs against glocks should refocus their concerns on their own profession since medical errors cause 251,000 deaths a year, nearly four times the gun-death rate and five times opioid ODs:

Fentanyl. It is said that it doesn’t take much to kill.

Fentanyl’s role to opioid-related deaths soared by 548 per cent between 2006 and 2015 and is now the most common cause of lethal overdoses among this class of powerful painkillers.

They are dying more often because dosing is harder to control due to the potency and variability of fentanyl-laced drugs. And then there’s carfentanyl... the elephant tranquilizer. Unbelievably potent compared to traditional opiates.

Why does an extremely liberal British newspaper care about drug deaths in the US?

Obamacare.

Opioids won't fix your problem, but at least you won't complain about it.

They got hooked on opiates legally thanks to easy prescription policies, then the supply disappeared when the government realized how many people were hooked, and then the addicts had to rely on heroin and fentanyl to feed their jones, and then they started dying in droves.

I can’t help but think that the current trend to legalize marijuana is feeding into this. Addiction is a process that leads to people seeking stronger and stronger sensations as their bodies become habituated to whatever drugs they started with. When one drug no longer gives them a satisfactory “high,” they seek other drugs. Once that process has started, it is irreversible because addiction literally remolds parts of the brain in ways that make the allure of mind-altering substances nearly irresistible. They can, in some cases, achieve sobriety—but the addiction can always kick back in, even after years of being clean.

I dunno. Could it have anything to do with wretched parenting skills by Mom and Dad?

When you give them clean needles, safe shoot up sites with a Narcan Monitor they will use more frequently. Crime will go up as they won’t work to support their habit. They die earlier. Develop diseases more from unprotected sex.

While INTRACTABLE PAIN PATIENTS NO LONGER HAVE LEGAL MONITORED PRESCRIPTION PAIN MEDS.
