We understand theres considerable damage being reported at Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, Alaska, due to a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit this morning. There are no reports of any injuries to employees or guests at the airport.
As a precaution, Alaska Airlines is suspending operations at the airport until at least 12:30 p.m. Pacific (11:30 a.m. Alaska) to allow for a thorough safety assessment of the facility and infrastructure. We are pausing arrivals and departures in and out of Anchorage during this time.

Alaska Ping.
My Cousin works for Alaska Airlines and she was flying back to Wasilla today.
Last I spoke to her she was okay. I don't know where she is at now though :(
Curious to know if the Airport was built on fill. Can’t tell from looking at the map.
Global climate warming change.
Alaska Governor Bill Walker has issued a disaster declaration and said he is in contact with the White House.
Yikes!
Why the heck is it so dark there?
I’m in LA and it’s 12:40-something ... and it’s full sunshine out. Why is it dark?
The ‘quake in 1964 was 100 times stronger (magnitude 9.2).

Have a Great Day,
Bye-By.
Short day today.
“Land of the Midnight Sun” in summer.
In winter they have nights that are just as long as the summer days.
It’s way up high. They get maybe six hours of light a day. Sun sort of peaks up over the mountains, says hello, and then goes back down.
You could be up in Barrow, Alaska where the sun hasn’t risen since November 18th and won’t rise again until January 22nd of next year.
Top of the World Hotel. I’ve got a T-shirt from that place. We had a T-2 turbine part shipped to that hotel.
One Fall season we would break ice past Barrow in the ‘daytime’. We’d shut down ops, wake up, and Barrow would be off our port bow. We did that for 10 days. Then we turned around, went through the NW Passage, through the canal, and then home.
Talk about the ‘long way’.
