The mother seen in a now-famous photo desperately pulling her daughters away from tear gas plumes at the US-Mexico border said she never imagined American forces would fire mace canisters at women and children.
We never thought they were going to fire these bombs where there were children, because there were lots of children, Maria Meza said in an interview with Reuters.

She was part of the hundreds of Central American migrants who approached the border, with some trying to storm the fence.
US Border Patrol agents began to fire tear gas canisters, and three landed around Meza and her kids.
The first thing I did was grab my children, Meza said from a Tijuana migrant shelter.
I was scared, and I thought I was going to die with them because of the gas.

That woman has no bags and supposedly no money or support, then wth did the clean diaper come from???
Yes, they’re too old for diapers. And moms don’t grab their kids’ forearms like that. If I saw something like that on a street, I would suspect a kidnapping.
I don’t know much about child raising techniques in central America, but when I was in Peru, diapers were rare. Parents tended to pull the kids pants down, or dresses up, and the kids went into the street.
ILLEGAL invaders.
Immigrants come here lawfully. No problem with people coming here vetted and lawfully.
Did she just expect to waltz across the border, be handed a big welfare check, get free housing, education and medical care for her kids and never have to work? Someone needed to tell her Obama is no longer President and the gravy train for illegals has ended.
‘”Does this look good? Should I turn my other child more toward the camera” she cried on the 4th attempt to make the iconic picture that would finally bring our young intrepid photographer the infamy she so righteously sought.’
She has 5 kids she is taking to their father; where are the other 3? probably behind the photographer so they don’t ruin the shot.
And apparently she can’t count, because that’s ONE gas cannister, not 3, and it isn’t really near her, and nobody else seems particularly concerned about it.
And it is hard to see any other children in that picture, a few of the bodies far away might be younger, and there may be a couple of women back there.
I’m more concerned about that guy who seems to have lost the entire top half of his body to some shadow creature where another photographer is trying to fake a shot of fleeing migrants.
2018 version of "green helmet guy".
There is no way that fat woman just walked 2K miles in the past 60 days.
On another note, is it just me or does that kid on the right look a little on old side to be wearing a diaper with what appears to be a load in it? Late bloomer maybe?
For the mentally disadvantaged, don’t try and run the boarder of the strongest nation on earth.
I may not end well.
And if you must yourself, leave the children at home. This is grown-up activity. Even then it’s criminal activity.
Look on the bright side, it’s good training for ducking cartel bullets.
aren’t those fairly large kids for wearing diapers?
The mom, i understand...
Those girls are pretty big to still be wearing diapers.
I’ve grabbed my son’s arm like that once to keep him from running into the street when he was three.
Boo hoo; play stupid, dangerous games, win stupid prizes.
Why are those big kids wearing diapers or pullups? They look to be 5 or 6 years old. And why do they have such light hair? Did the casting agency not have any hispanic-looking two year olds available this weekend?
Another (sad) side note, I think mom is actually wearing a childs nightgown as a top.
The single “tear gas” smoke bomb is 150 yards inside the Mexican border, further than it could have been thrown or fired. It is also not billowing but the smoke is remaining on the ground. Several other groups are staging photo ops in the background. This is blatantly staged and is far from the border.
In the far distance, about 1/2 mile, the actual attack on the border was occurring. You can see it at the end of the wall construction.
