Russia over the weekend mounted its most serious aggression against Ukraine since President Trump took office, and America punted.
Trumps outgoing ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, described the chain of events that led to the current standoff at the Black Sea as an outrageous violation of sovereign Ukrainian territory. She vowed that Washington and its friends would stand with Kiev.
So whats the plan? It is our expectation that our European partners will lead this effort through the Normandy Four format, Haley said, referring to a toothless Barack Obama-era gabfest that has mostly served to legitimize Moscows illegal annexation of Crimea and invasion of eastern Ukraine.
Trusting that diplomatic channel is like showing up to a gunboat fight without even a knife.
Consider what happened: Three Ukrainian vessels headed from Ukraines Black Sea port of Odessa to a Ukrainian port in the Sea of Azov. In the Kerch Strait, which separates the two bodies of water, Russian warships fired at the Ukrainians, injured crew members and seized the vessels.

No Ukrainian vessel can actually meet that criteria until the President of Ukraine withdraws his vow to destroy the Kerch Strait bridge and causeway.
Under the same circumstances any country would be stupid to not escort (more likely inspect and then escort or pilot) every vessel from a country that has made that sort of vow and never openly and formally retracted it.
Thats pretty sick. You are advocating the assasination of a democratically elected head of state because you dont like that he did his job and defended his country?
Poroshenko has now reduced request for martial law from 60 days to 30.....
Do you think this is the first time that a Ukrainian vessel has attempted to navigate under the Crimea Bridge? The real question is why Ukraine has up until this point observed all requirements of international law and the applicable treaty, then suddenly ceased to do so. This was 110% an intentional provocation.
I would not read too much into either Russian or Ukrainian news it will be loaded with confusion and propoganda.
Russia is no threat to us at all if we don’t provoke them.
Ukraine is not our problem.
Hear, hear. We PROMISED TO DEFEND UKRAINE AGAINST INVASION AND HOSTILITIES IF THEY GAVE UP THEIR NUKES; THEY DID AND WE OWE IT TO THEM TO KEEP OUR WORD.
Indeed. “We are not about to send American boys 9 or 10 thousand miles away from home to do what Ukrainian boys ought to be doing for themselves.”
I'm glad someone said it. Ukraine had 25 years to make itself an independent state, but they didn't. Their leaders were too busy looting the place. Then to top it all off, Obama, Clinton, Nuland, Brennan and the Deep State turned the Ukraine on its head with their god-damned Soros-inspired "color revolution" - and left it to burn. Were they so stupid that they didn't expect Putin to simply grab (back) the Crimea in retaliation?
In reality, it was Ukrainian fascists backed by Western intelligence agencies who overthrew a democratically elected European President in a violent coup.
Absent constitutional order and facing a fascist tyranny, the Crimean people invoked their natural right to self determination...and having established their own autonomy, held a legal referendum which led them to rejoin the Russian Federation.
Reality? You must have been asleep when a Russian from Moscow confessed to taking the Crimean parliament at gun point. His name is Igor Girkin and he is quite open about it. Do you homework before you spin Putinist fairy tales here.
There was no organic uprising in Crimea. It was all orchestrated from the Kremlin. Not that you would care about facts being a loyal Putinista.

It was Ukraine that started this fiasco. Probably to prop up their failing dictator. Martial law now. Next cancel elections. We’ve seen this before.
No thanks, nobody is going to spill any blood for Ukraine. They’re on their own with this one I’m afraid.
Out of curiousity though, what exactly did you have in mind? Declare war on Russia?
It is not within our sphere of interest. The Ukraine apparently violated an agreement about naval activities within that Strait.
Trump is right, let the Europeans straighten it out.

What did he say. exactly?
Russian blood has soaked the ground in the Crimea especially in WW2. Some here may have even heard of the Crimea War.
Stand with them for moral reasons? A corrupt kleptocracy, born of globalism and neo-nazism? No thanks. And there are no US national security implications of whatever is going on out on the eastern front.
Porkoshenko swore he would blow up that new bridge. So would you let him sail underneath it? And the warships were on the way to the eastern areas of old Ukraine where the Kiev coup is trying to extend its control.
#34. Sounds just like some justifications for invasions of European nations that HITLER used in the 1930’s Danzig, eastern Czechoslovakia, the reoccupation of the Rhineland, Poland and eventually the Soviet Union/Russia. And let’s not forget the Angschluss in Austria. Very similar in method to the Referendum to unite the Crimea area with Russia, or the Donetz Region with Russia.
