SAN DIEGO U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials temporarily suspended all northbound and southbound crossings for both pedestrians and vehicles at the San Ysidro port of entry at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday morning. As of 2 p.m., operations have not resumed.
In preparation for multiple planned demonstrations on both sides of the border, CBP had deployed additional personnel to the San Ysidro port of entry on Sunday. As the demonstrations on the Mexican side reached the border area, some members of the demonstration split off to head towards multiple locations along the border. Some attempted to enter the U.S. both directly east and west of the border crossing. These attempts to illegally enter the U.S., and the response to them continue. Some attempted to illegally enter the U.S. through both the northbound and southbound vehicles lanes at the port of entry itself. Those persons were stopped and turned back to Mexico.
To prepare for the possibility that additional groups would also break off from demonstrations for a possible attempt or attempts to rush illegally through the port of entry, CBP suspended operations at the port of entry.
CBP will provide updates about operations at the port of entry and at other areas along the border.
Why has Mexico allowed this to happen?
I don’t know but it’s costing them a fortune.
I doubt Mexico sees it as their problem. It isn't their country these criminals are trying to break into right now unless there are more doing it at their Southern border.
The way I see it; if someone is breaking into my home I have every right to blow their head off and would in a second. Why should these thieves be treated any different?
How defensible is the San Ysidro? If a couple of thousands Hondurans rush towards it can they be stopped? To me from the photos I have seen it just looks like one big toll plaza.
There is no simple and short answer.
Demonstration on this side of the border ?
Anyone on this side of the fence supporting an open border should get a free ride via catapult over the wall to Mexico.
Since these are not US citizens arrest them for illegal entry and ship them off to any third world country willing to jail them until their video trail date. After their release in Libya they will be just in time to be sold into slavery. I doubt many others will play this game after seeing the prize they are going to win.
We are being attacked!
They will see it as their problem if the border stays closed for a while.
YEP.
Phones be a`ringing at 'La Palma' right about now...
.
Some of those women lined up, front and center with their kids, definitely have not walked a thousand miles from Central America.
Never expected any different.
Doesn’t matter either, not at this point anyway.
What mattes is our forceful and full throttled response.
The drug mules have been stopped, temporarily. The Cartels are not happy.
Looks like they’re prepping to reopen. No idea when, though!
Years ago, FReeper MeneMeneTekelUpHarsin wrote a good piece on the duplicity of the Mexican people.
They are allowing this to happen and IMO, are the ones coordinating everything.
They have not and have never been our ally or even a trading partner. They are the equivalent of North Korea to our South Korea, prior to 2018.
Funny that right as the NK/SK border sorta softening, the US/Mex one is hardening.
I’m fine with it, though —in fact I’m DELIGHTED.
Enough already.
