The chief justice is just about as believable insisting that politics doesn't affect the judiciary as Iran's President Ahmadinejad was when he told a Columbia University audience that there are no gays in Iran. Groucho Marx articulated the dilemma with the immortal line, "Who are you going to believe? Me or your lying eyes?"

Roberts has remained silent as a series of outrageous decisions from federal district judges has substituted a single judge's decision on what the POTUS should do for the authority granted to the chief executive by the Constitution.
Another time that the chief justice remained silent happened in the 2010 State of the Union Address, when President Obama explicitly attacked the Supreme Court's decision in Citizens United, and his colleague, Justice Alito, mouthed "Not true," only to be rebuked by many commentators.
For at least six decades, courts have been legislating from the bench, and finally a president has taken this on. We can expect the entire institutional weight of the establishment to come down hard on him. The only thing Trump has going for his position is reality.

I think that whatever the deep state has on Justice Roberts must be pretty bad to make him disgrace himself like this.
As a retired lawyer with 33 years of practice, I can say from direct personal experience of repeated discussions with other lawyers while handling numerous cases, that Roberts’ remark is totally counter-factual. If any case we were dealing with had any ideological implications, the President who appointed the deciding judge, judges, or Justice(s) was regarded as vitally important because that President’s ideology was likely to be reflected in the decider(s)’ ideology and resulting decision(s).
After all, why else would there have been a near war over the Kavanaugh nominmation?
Looks like Mark disqualified himself in a legal prediction farting contest with that one.
Robert’s is telling us how the court was intended....not what it is.
And now he's one of them. SOCTUS will only have a solid conservative / originalist majority when Ginsburg and Breyer are replaced with constitutionalists. Kav still needs to prove himself. He may well be a precedentist rather than an constitutionalist. But we'll see.
If even Fox News refuses to report the news unbiasedly, the only voice of truth still standing to counter the lies of the Left-wing Big Brother propagandizing Monster known as the U.S. mainstream media is Donald Trump.
The President should issue at least several statements per day through Twitter.
He should especially issue them in the morning before White House news conferences. Each news conference would then begin with the moderator reading the latest White House tweets verbatim to Jim Acosta and his fellow prospective disrupters.
Once the disruptions begin and the anti-Trump news brigade starts twisting and misquoting Trump’s statements, the moderator would gavel the group into silence and then repeat the relevant Trump statements word for word, thereby giving the statements additional impact and continually exposing the foolish misinterpretations of his media attackers.
And if the disrupters refused to be gaveled into silence, the moderator would end the news conference.
This seems like a no-lose formula for the weakening of what the vast majority of Americans consider the current untrustworthy, overly biased news-reporting situation that has been inflicted on them for decades.
