President Trump confirmed Thursday that troops he sent to the southern border had authorization to use lethal force to stop migrants from entering the country.
“If they have to, they’re going to use lethal force. I’ve — I’ve given the OK. If they have to. I hope they don’t have to,” he said, adding that he was open to the possibility of closing the entire border if necessary.
White House chief of staff John Kelly signed a Cabinet order Wednesday allowing some troops to engage in law enforcement activities and use lethal force, loosening the engagement restrictions on military personnel at the southwest border.
Troops may “perform those military protective activities that the Secretary of Defense determines are reasonably necessary,” according to the report, which explains that “protective activities" include “a show or use of force (including lethal force, where necessary), crowd control, temporary detention, and cursory search.”
Earlier this month, the Pentagon deployed roughly 5,800 troops to the border at the request of Trump as a group of thousands of Central American migrants make their way to the U.S., many hoping to claim asylum from violence in their home countries.
Trump has claimed that several members of the group are violent criminals and belong to gangs, while administration officials have voiced security concerns about some individuals in the caravan.
“Our military is being mobilized at the Southern Border. Many more troops coming. We will NOT let these Caravans, which are also made up of some very bad thugs and gang members, into the U.S. Our Border is sacred, must come in legally. TURN AROUND!” Trump tweeted last month.
The president has staked several hardline positions since the caravan formed in Central America, including placing roadblocks in the way of migrants’ requests for asylum.

you tell me. I said we would not open up on unarmed people. Take a clue from police. You can act like they armed for safety, but you don’t shoot them because you think they MAYBE unarmed. you shoot them if they brandish or su their weapons.
If they just shot at people for rushing the border, I would support trumps impeachment and criminal charges.
This should have been done at least 20 years ago. When I was in the navy, in Camp Pendleton (1995-’98), I noticed that base usually had about 5,000 marines who don’t have much to do. I thought they should take turns guarding the California-Mexico border.

Don’t bet the farm on that.
Once they start throwing rocks, fire bombs, spears or whatever, while trying to swarm over the border and overwhelm our security teams, don’t be shocked when they’re outright shot. These are NOT “poor innocent unarmed civilians”. It’s an invasion force of mostly young men flying their country’s flag. They’ll be stopped...one way or another. The choice on how it’s handled is theirs....hopefully without violence.
They’d be verrrry smart just to turn around and go home, or take Mexico up on their generous offer of asylum.

The closest I know was when a captain opened dup on Indians mostly women and children when the braves were out of camp. Sand creek.

was responding to people on various thread getting hot because of trumps comments. i never said he authorized it. I said he wouldn’t. So for those who are excited about shooting those who climb the wall or rush the traffic lanes, maybe they should stand down and take their meds.
So if say, 15000 people “rush” the border - and all of them turn out to be Mexican Army, and are armed, but don’t brandish their weapons until after getting on to the American side - I take it you’d still be cool with it? After all, don’t the Refugees have Second Amendment Rights along with all the other Constitutional Rights they enjoy as aliens?

your example is answered in my statement of armed. What if martians landed on the border with death rays. What if.... you can think of other example. There are civilians coming to the nodes. some of them may be armed. you don’t know who is armed. The walk or climb. no us commander will authorize the military open up on them till weapons are shown or used. Can you agree to the that or do you want to shoot people who “MAY be armed.
