The Boston Celtics' early season struggles continued on Wednesday night with a 117-109 loss to the New York Knicks. Down by as much as 26, the Celtics made a big comeback in the fourth quarter, but fell short, largely due to some clutch shooting by Trey Burke. Now just 9-9 on the season, there will be plenty to discuss in regards to the Celtics' inability to meet expectations.
At the same time, there will also be plenty of discussion about one of Kyrie Irving's postgame quotes, in which he made it clear he doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving. MassLive's Tom Westerholm was on the scene:
Boston Celtics star Kyrie Irving had finished talking about the team's frustrating 117-109 loss to the New York Knicks and was making his way out of the scrum when a reporter wished him a happy Thanksgiving.
Irving thanked the reporter politely, then added that he doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving.
"(Expletive) Thanksgiving," Irving said.
Irving confirmed to NBC Sports Boston's Abby Chin afterward that his opposition to Thanksgiving is rooted in his Native American heritage.
While it may be surprising at first to hear Irving's harsh thoughts about the holiday, it's important to remember the context here. Irving has Native American heritage, as his grandmother was a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, and his late mother was adopted out of the tribe when she was young.
Over the summer, Irving, who has a tattoo of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribal logo on the back of his neck, went through a naming ceremony with the tribe along with his sister. He was given the name "Little Mountain."

I have just one question for politically zealous Native Americans.
O.K., so there are parts of history that upset you. I get it. So what do you expect the nation to do now that that history is over; just fold up and go away??
Kyrie...... you need to go back to picking cotton
As a Celtic fan for almost 50 years, I was looking forward to Boston dominating the East now that LeBron joined the Lakers.
Unfortunately, my beleaguered team have proven to be absolute TURKEYS so far this season!
Initially thought it was an amazing honor to have Kyrie playing for the green when the trade with Cleveland was made.
Perhaps, Irving is no better, character-wise than that ole dummy LeBron James.
Irving has Native American heritage.
He can prove it he once slept at an casino owned by indians.
England, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, or China.
some developed country was going to colonize this land.
Parts of Africa were colonized as well but as the 20th century moved on, “imperialism” was frowned upon (except Islamic imperialism and Communist imperialism) so nations cut back trying to influence leadership there. If you give money to a nation and aren’t permitted oversight in how that money is handled or spent, why give?
Meanwhile third world nations still exist. It isn’t the West keeping those societies or people down.
+1
I would boycott the NBA, but since basketball is my second least favorite to watch anyway (ahead of golf, but behind bowling, tennis, and hockey) I'll just be content with pointing out at every opportunity that Kyrie Irving is another bigoted overpaid a-hole with a stupid first name.
Irving and James are both scum.
Kyrie is a girls name
