SOUTH Africa’s white farmers could face land seizures after the country’s parliament recommended controversial reforms which put their future in doubt. The proposals would see the introduction of laws allowing the state to expropriate land without compensation “in the national interest”.

White South African farmers still own around 73 percent of the country’s commercial agricultural land despite making up just nine percent of the population.

And supporters of sweeping land reform insist the state must step in to transfer ownership of some of the land to black farmers more than two decades after the end of apartheid.

I never said the land was stolen, or whose land it even was. What is happening to South Africa is very un-Machiavellian. Land belongs to the ones that hold it once they move in. Once they can’t hold it, there are reasons for that happening. When you move into a nomadic area, the best way to remain the land holder is to become the dominate population. Once you allow nomads and/or imported workers to out number you, they will eventually rule absolute. If any farmers do make it out of there, I hope they don’t end up where it could happen again...Like Germany, France or Canada.

Any white farmers still in South Africa has a death wish.
I know it is hard for them to give up what they and their ancestors worked so hard for, but it is lost.
They need to sell what they can, destroy the rest and leave. Almost anywhere is better than SA at this point.
Otherwise, they’re going to be robbed and murdered.

All kidding aside. Jan van Riebeeck lands. 90 % + of what is to become RSA is uninhabited. There there are a few thousand "Bushmen" living in the deserts, a few thousand herders living in what was to become the breadbasket (Bantu) with the majority living in the subtropical Natal area (also Bantu)

The Bantu who are from north of Nigeria spread along the waterways in Africa. Their level of economic development was farm by the rivers and trade with the herdsmen. There is one major river in SA and it is barely in SA.

The Dutch and French SA equivalent of our pilgrims set out on covered wagons and through blood and sweat and hand dug wells and windmills and advanced irrigation created farms. Bantu swarmed into SA for jobs.

It was never their land. They couldn't farm it then and will not be able to farm it now. See Zim for what is going to happen.

The dominant population has taken South Africa away from what used to be the dominant population. Now they want the land as well. Next is the bank accounts. After that anything that’s left, until there is no more. Farming? Logging? Mining? They don’t care, they out number the whites and they want what the whites have. They are the government now. Yes, my 18th-century Scots-Irish immigrant ancestor bought land in Virginia from a Bantu chief. Unfortunately the deed is in Swahili so I don't know what it says.

I noticed one mistake—the king’s charter was not dated 1655 (that was during the time Oliver Cromwell was in control and Charles II was in exile). The date should be 1665.

Great book, as are all of Alexandria Fuller's...also, a more relevant book is, The Last Resort, by Douglas Rogers. It tells the story of a white farm family and how they managed to survive in Zimbabwe during the illegal confiscations.
Excellent book! Lots of very funny stories in a sad chapter.
