Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Of course, during Buchanan’s term, Confederate forces in Charleston fired on a ship flying the United States flag and did nothing about it. To my knowledge, firing on an unarmed ship on a peaceful mission is an act of war.
When the Confederates fired on Fort Sumter, they committed an act of war. Lincoln did not call for 75,000 volunteers because the Southern States had seceded, he did so because they launched an armed rebellion against the United States.

The Chief Justice cannot repeal the second amendment.
That takes another amendment according to the Constitution of the United States. Enough of the junior high school rhetoric on the subject.

Did the Union warships open fire on Charleston?
It didn’t matter. Davis ordered Beauregard to take the fort by force if necessary before it could be resupplied. The ships were twelve miles off of Charleston when Beauregard opened fire. No one fired on ay Confederate position, not the ships, not the Fort.

Davis fired on Fort Sumter. That is what precipitated the war. Davis’s Secretary of State told him it would be war, but he did it anyway. He would rather have a war than him and his slave holding backers losing money and power.

I . . . I . . . I thought under the federal supremacy clause of the constitution judges could vote to pass a law if it results in more fairness.

And suppose judges do vote to pass a law to repeal part of the constitution, what are you going to do about it?

Federal judges have a lifetime appointment, don't cha know.

Might try and read the Constitution some day. “what are you going to do about it?” suppose you will run outside with your AR-15, and a few magazines of ammunition to defend your god give rights. Suspect it will read well in your obit.

You left a rather important part out of Attorney General’s Blacks opinion, that states had no constitutional right to secede.
Also after Fort Sumter was fired on President Buchanan changed his tune and supported putting down the rebellion by force.

If Southerners were really sore losers, they would not have been so quick to forgive and forget.

Look around at most of your compatriots and it's clear that they haven't forgiven much less forgotten.

President Buchanan’s then Attorney General J. S. Black issued his opinion on this date to support the President. He wrote that neither the President nor Congress had the authority to conduct aggressive armed conflict. He wrote...

Earlier he wrote:

"If one of the States should declare her independence, your action cannot depend upon the rightfulness of the cause upon which such declaration is based. Whether the retirement of a State from the Union be the exercise of a right reserved in the Constitution or a revolutionary movement, it is certain that you have not in either case the authority to recognize her independence or to absolve her from Federal obligations. Congress or the other States in convention assembled must take such measures as may be necessary and proper. In such an event, I see no course for you but to go straight onward in the path you have hitherto trodden, that is, execute the laws to the extent of the defensive means placed in your hands, and act generally upon the assumption that the present constitutional relations between the States and the Federal Government continue to exist until a new order of things shall be established, either by law or force."

You don't have to do much massaging to notice that Southern exports produced 75-85% of all European trade with the US.

You don't have to be a rocket surgeon to follow a money trail as big as this one.

But apparently you need to be a 'rocket surgeon' to come to the conclusions that you have. Which would explain a lot.

You could at least be honest.

The ship, Star of the West, originally civilian, had just been pressed into military service to avoid alarming the Charleston citizenry, and outfitted for battle. It carried 200 troops armed with muskets, war munitions, arms, and supplies for one year.

It was a military expedition force designed to enter a non-Union port and land against local authority.

The Governor of South Carolina had just announced that any attempted improvement in military status by the Union would constitute an act of war.

There is your act of war.

The Union ship's company and 200 troops should have been appreciative that the Charleston citizens and Citadel students let them escape unharmed.

Gona need more than your say so. Cite a source for the claim that the “Star of the West” was carrying troops, arms, and ammunition in addition to provisions.
