Dozens of House Republicans object to gay rights language in NAFTA replacement deal

A group of 45 House Republican lawmakers wrote President Trump Friday stating that they were "deeply concerned" by the inclusion of "sexual orientation and and gender identity language" in the U.S.-Mexico-Canada-Agreement on trade.

The representatives said the inclusion was "inappropriate and insulting to our national sovereignty" and urged Trump to remove the language.

The letter suggests the president may loose some key Republican support when the deal, which would replace the North American Free Trade Agreement, comes before before Congress for approval next year.

"A trade agreement is no place for the adoption of social policy," the GOP lawmakers wrote, adding, "It sets a dangerous precedent for courts and future administrations to build on."

Trump can’t know every single bit of information in these massive deals. It’s why I’m more or less against such massive deals.

All it takes is one lame RINO in the mix, and this stuff creeps in.

He should get the language changed.

This agreement hasn’t been signed yet and hasn’t made it to congress for approval. The deal was made with the trade negotiators, not congress.

As a Canuck living in Kanaduh (aka Canuckistan), I agree 100% with those 45 Republicans. A trade deal is NO PLACE for the adoption of social(ist) policy.

As much as I don’t want my country’s economy (Kanaduh) to suffer, if PDJT’s rejection of the agreement resulted in Prime Minister Soi Boi’s loss in the next election, I would certainly be on side with it! Unfortunately, my POV is in the minority in Kanaduh.
