A substitute teacher who has taught for years at Parkway South High School claims school administrators banned him from working there after he thanked students for saying the Pledge of Allegiance and a student complained.
The substitute teacher, Jim Furkin, told the Parkway School Board his story at their meeting Wednesday night and asked them to look into it.
Id like to know what happened, Furkin said.
-------------
Furkin told the Post-Dispatch that in late October he was the substitute teacher for a freshman English class at Parkway South High when the school made its daily announcements over the PA system. After announcements, students are asked to stand up and say the Pledge of Allegiance.
So I say, All right, lets go, and we recite the pledge, he said. There are always two or three who dont stand up because its not required. So at the end of the pledge I said, Thanks to all of you that participated in that. Im sure that all of those families who lost loved ones so that we could enjoy the freedoms we have today would appreciate the effort.
Furkin said a student asked to go to the school counselors office, so Furkin wrote the student a pass to go. Later on, he said, a school administrator questioned Furkin about what happened and told him that a student had been hurt by what was said after the pledge.
I said, Oh, I didnt mean it that way, that wasnt my intent at all, Furkin said. He said Well get back to you, and then the next day after that, Im no longer welcome in the building.

see, you’re not the only one who ran afoul of snowflakes
All these ridiculous firings lately. Four I’ve seen this week. Teachers need to start suing.
He politely thanked and reminded them just why they say the pledge. He did not exclude or offend anyone. Just awful.
Victim power goes to them that have the most sensitive feelings and are looking to be violated in any form (aka micro-aggressions). This kid is such and probably boasts of how s/he got one over this teacher.
bingo! now I don’t feel so bad. snowflakitis it is! I may have screwed up and pandered a little bit, but to go to the main office and call your parents because I apparently told you about black history contributions?
Even if the student was fragile enough to ‘feel hurt’, it could have been handled differently.
The best thing would have been to get the Sub Teacher, the School Administrator and the student in question in a small private room. Let them talk about it. The student would have gotten more from that than acting as a Job-Assassin-Snitch.
The wrong tendencies are being cultivated.
By snowflake standards, he did. He thanked the participating students, which meant he did not thank the snowflakes who did not participate.
So I get the idea here.
Anyone with any sense of morality or respect or love of country gets chased out.
Natch.
Public School is sick.
It raises sick, hate America children.
They’ll be sorry, good subs are hard to find. Snowflakes are a dime a dozen.
There will be many more. I was forced to retire several years ago from a large public school district. There is a cleansing of Christians/Conservatives that is intensifying in every area of employment.
[There is a cleansing of Christians/Conservatives that is intensifying in every area of employment.]
You can say that seven times. The spirit of antichrist is at work and it accelerated with the anointing of the Lying Kenyan.
Like every one gets a trophy.
Don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings do we?
I don’t see how this is best!
This still empowers the student & their “all important feelings”. It reinforces the fanciful notion “It’s all about me ! Me! My life! My feelings!”. This needs to be put to rest before they become more insufferable! The student ought to be told in no uncertain terms to “suck it up!”. Getting your feelings hurt is life! It will happen and in far more serious ways then what you just experienced. Get used to it! Grow up! Learn to ignore such things if you find them distasteful. The others didn’t! Self reflect on that awhile!
The Schools have given the LIBERAL student way too much power. The attitude is ‘The Customer Is ALWAYS Right!! (unless you are a conservative).
It’s part of the school culture now, baked into the cakes of Job Evaluation. Will take a long time to reverse, if that ever occurs. To reverse, both students and school administrators will have to resume more traditional roles of authority. That can take from 10 to 20 years.
The students have no consequences for ANY behavior, but are the arbiters of acceptable behavior for adults.........???
And the snowflakes know all the right trigger words to do someone in.
If there are conservatives in this community, they need to show up 500 strong at the next schoolboard meeting and demand that the principal be fired. If the people can’t do that, then enjoy a jackboot in your faces and boys in girl lockerooms.
