Threats rising: Earlier this week, a bipartisan committee appointed by Congress released a report that should chill all Americans to the bone.
The National Defense Strategy Commission, an independent entity whose board is appointed by the House and Senate Armed Services committees, concluded in a 116-page report that the United States’ military superiority advantages have so eroded over the past decade that it’s very possible and, in some scenarios even likely, America could lose a war to a major power competitor like Russia or China.
That’s largely because the U.S. military has focused on fighting small, brush-fire wars like those in Iraq, Afghanistan and, to a lesser degree, Syria and Libya, for nearly 20 years.
Meanwhile, as the American military was distracted by insurgencies, the Russian and Chinese militaries were rebuilding, modernizing, and focusing squarely on modern, large-scale warfare. And both countries’ militaries have made substantial progress in developing and fielding conventional, electronic, cyber, and nuclear forces that are either on par with American capabilities or very close.

Funding for the military was already passed for two years in this year’s earlier Omnibus.
The report the writer is referring to is indeed accurate but the writer seems not aware that POTUS got $700 billion for this fiscal year and $716 billion through 2020. The DOD is now funded to the hilt because of POTUS’s dealmaking. When he realized Congress would not give him the funding for the Wall, he settled for two years of near triple funding for rebuilding the military.
Not only is the DOD now rich again, but POTUS at his discretion may also declare the southern border to be a risk to national security and use military funds to build the Wall!
Why not cut it 95%..?
Who ever heard of a US Military forbidden from stopping an invasion of it’s OWN borders..?

Defense spending is and has been out of control for decades.
With Maxine Waters and others like her at the help, they will have the military dumpster diving just to eat.

I like a strong military. But anyone who has been up close has seen the waste and inefficiency. The DoD needs major reform, not more money.
Because most of them are agents of the chinese and/or russians.

Don’t give the Dems any ideas. If we are invaded they will insist the foreign troops can vote too, as well as get free healthcare and housing...
We should pull out of Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq and let them fight it out.
They will pass things they know will die in the Senate. None of them they actually want. They just want to score political points.
Do we really need all 800 or so military bases and to spend as much as any four nations combined?
Defend our borders; kill the occasional bad guys before they can kill us, other than that let the rest of the world pay for it’s own defense.
I just wonder why this crap is even posted! In the next two years, there will be no cuts in defense spending. Although spending bills originate in the House, they have to be approved by the Senate and signed by the President. The RATs will have to be willing to be responsible for a long government shutdown if they persist in these efforts.

The 1.416 trillion funding for the military was for rebuilding and maintaining what Obama had demolished and rendered impotent.
When America is militarily weakened as it was during the Obama years, other hostile nations are emboldened to prepare to create conflict.
A weak military creates a pathway for others to start wars.
