Saw him twice in small venue concerts. 1st was incredible.... last time a couple of years back. Last one he could sing every song, but couldnt play guitar or banjo. Like he had forgotten how. Was very sad, yet crowd understood and cheered all the same. He is playing now....

I got to see him twice. Once in 1979 and again a couple of years ago.

Just over a year ago we lost Glen Campbell (Aug.2017) and now Roy Clark. I group them because they both could play ANY genre, play up one side and down the other and do it all with a smile! Gracious human beings and now they are with God. RIP and God's blessings on the ones left behind to mourn.
Here is a Youtube clip of the two of them playing "Ghost Riders" and sure looks like they were having FUN!

Another great American disappears into eternity. Clark was an incredible guitarist. I guess he and Buck Owens are together again, “pickin’ and a grinnin’”

I really enjoyed his music. The guy was a musical genius.
He was real music, unlike most these days.

I saw Roy Clark live at the Grand Ole Opry around 2000 or so. I was in Nashville on business, and my boss had gotten tickets for us and our wives for the Grand Ole Opry. I am not a country music fan, but I was fairly familiar with a lot of country acts from my youth. I still remember on Saturdays, starting around 5:00 PM my parents would start watching a slate of 30 minute country music programs on one of the local UHF channels. To my surprise (and shock), some of those acts from decades past were still singing (or attempting to sing) at the Opry. I saw Bill Anderson and Jan Howard (they used to have a show) and Little Jimmy Dickens (he was a guest on all those old shows) and several others.
Most of those old acts were pretty dreadful. Almost all of those old timers had lost their voices. At one point, Roy Clark came out to do about 15 minutes (they rotate shows at the Opry, and they run 15-30 minutes). He was absolutely superb. He still sounded great, and he even did "Thank God & Greyhound".

I listen online to a classic country station out of St
Louis. They have a great play list, a lot of songs I haven’t heard in years and some I had forgotten, including this one: “I Never Picked Cotton”. A great and gritty song. RIP.
