A student senator at UC Berkeley abstained from a vote supporting transgender rights last week, then took a moment to explain her thinking. Now, more than 1,000 people have signed a petition demanding that she resign from student government or face a recall.

Berzerkley.
‘Nuff said.
Oh, oh. Lost our lock-step.
The groupthink of the hivemind at work.
Academia is a massive leftist echo-chamber and political bloc. Its a huge bubble, kept afloat by massive government spending and massive student debt-slavery
This bubble needs to be popped.
Stop sending kids to college.....
Welllll, if the student senator had any thought that his/her reasons for not voting would open up a discussion, that student should have known better....there can be no discussions with Marxist/liberals....why the heck did the student feel compelled to say anything about how they had voted?
For the vast majority of academia you’re absolutely correct.
There are a few colleges worth attending, but very few.
One of my kids just graduated from a very small, yet highly regarded specialized engineering university. Total geek school.
They had no teams, no athletics, no dorms, no student council, no activity fees, no political correctness etc.
Students could live in an in campus apartment where they were responsible for their own meals. Don’t cook-go hungry. It taught them actual adulthood.
One of my daughters is taking classes through Unbound.org. It’s an outfit that customizes a bachelors program through a variety of online classes. They don’t teach anything, they connect students to online classes through various universities. She’ll graduate, next year I think from a known university in new Jersey.
She quit her regular job and is a full time nanny. Gets paid well and takes her classes while the kid is napping.
Just a couple miles from my son’s college is the highly PC University of Maryland, a place loaded with self-righteous liberal snowflakes who are too stupid and self absorbed to look before stepping into the street. (I once drove a bus through campus and had these little darlings walk right in front of me as if the laws of physics didn’t apply to them
I'd agree for these reeducation institutions. However if the student is majoring in one of the fields taught at Hillsdale or its sister institutions that refuse all US Government Aid and CONTROL, that might be the ticket!
And this is what universities should return to, once the massive government cash and student debt spigot is shut off. I am surprised Trump has not addressed this. I don't think anyone in Washington DC realizes both what a present burden, and future political opportunity, this is.
If voting the “wrong” way causes you to lose your job, the “vote” is a sham.
"The Free Speech Movement was a massive, long-lasting student protest which took place during the 196465 academic year on the campus of the University of California, Berkeley. The Movement was informally under the central leadership of Berkeley graduate student Mario Savio."

“People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they seldom use.”

I personally know Isabella Chow. She basically grew up in a church I attended for 5 years. She’s very sweet. They chose the picture of her in the article to make her look mean. Please pray for her to be strong in the Lord.
Thank you for posting this. I really am concerned about her. I thought she looked “determined” and I hope and pray she stays that way. We need people like her to stand up for her (and many other’s) beliefs and not falter in the face of enormous adversity.
“Academia is a massive leftist echo-chamber and political bloc. Its a huge bubble, kept afloat by massive government spending and massive student debt-slavery.”
Basically. As Plato said in 450 B.C. in chapter 7 of the Republic:
A cave full of ignorant prisoners stuck in the chains of hate who resent free people entering the cave with keys to unlock the chains.
From the article. “Regan Putnam, president of the Queer Alliance Resource Center. said, ‘But she took it upon herself...’”
In other words, a person should not express opinions that promote the goodness of marriage and reject the badness of deviant behaviors.
Yes, Mr. Putnam is sick.
There were for it before they were against it. (Berkeley.
