France’s Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire has called for Europe to become an “empire” to compete with the United States after the country’s President Emmanuel Macron called for an EU army to defend against the NATO ally. “It’s about Europe having to become a kind of empire, as China is. And how the U.S. is,” Mr Le Maire told Germany’s Handelsblatt.
Adding that it would be a “peaceful empire,” the economics and finance minister touted the progressive government’s green credentials, saying that the European empire should “rel[y] on green growth. Neither China nor the U.S., who are leaving the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, are on this path.”

Once again, Europe is raising it’s ugly head, and the implications for the future are ominous.
France needs to bring back the guillotine, and keep it’s pets Marcon and Le Maire on short leashes.
This is exactly why we have NATO, and those who suggest we should bail, need to think long and hard about the reality of what would come next.

I thought that’s what the EU was started to become. Let them start their own army and we will no longer have to support NATO or save Europe’s bacon when they surrender at the first sign of conflict.

Once everybody in the EU decides they’re on the same page, the struggle to decide who’s in charge will lead to a fracture of the union at best, or to war.

A huge number of Europeans hate the Euro and the Union - productive northern countries have to support/pay for lazy Mediterranean countries, average citizen of Med countries saw their real earnings/wages drop drastically with the Euro, and there is enough nationalism in each country to not want to be stripped of it to become no longer German, French, Italian - whatever - and to become European.
It’s a pretend alliance that is hurting everyone.....but few will admit it. One of the only things holding them together is their universal/common socialistic view of the world.
If the UK can truly separate from the EU, it may well be the beginning of the end.....of the EU.......
