Andrew Cuomo Is Still Governor...But He Only Won How Many Counties North of NYC?
Townhall.com ^ | November 12, 2018 | Cortney O'Brien

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) won re-election for the third time by 22 points last week. But a new report suggests it was nothing to brag about. He handily won New York City, but struggled in the rest of the state, winning only seven of the counties north of the city. In all, he lost 47 of the Empire State's 62 counties.

Cuomo won Onondaga, Monroe, Albany, Erie, Ulster, and Tompkins Counties, which include major cities like Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. All the other upstate counties overwhelmingly voted for Cuomo's Republican opponent Marc Molinaro, the Dutchess County executive. In many of those places, he had a 20 to 30 percent lead.

Molinaro challenged Cuomo during their sole debate (Molinaro wanted more) about the convictions of his former aide Joe Percoco and Alain Kaloyeros, the Founding President and Chief Executive Officer of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute who oversaw Cuomo's corrupt Buffalo Billions program. Cuomo, Molinaro said, has presided over “the most corrupted state government in America."

An early squabble came over corruption. Mr. Molinaro alluded to the convictions of Messrs. Percoco and Kaloyeros, and accused the governor of presiding over “the most corrupted state government in America.” Mr. Percoco was found guilty of taking bribes from people seeking state development and energy contracts, and Mr. Kaloyeros was found guilty of rigging the bids on high-tech facilities built by SUNY Poly. (Wall Street Journal)

Cuomo shot back, accusing the Republican of bringing "this extreme conservative, divisive cancer that you have brought to this state with Washington."

Still, a map of New York after the election shows plenty of red spots. As The Democrat & Chronicle noted, Cuomo "has New York City to thank" for his win - again.

“It’s a shithole.”

Yes, it is. I have been to visit only four times in the past ten years. It is a weird, overwhelming, confusing and unwelcoming place.

The best thing I have seen in NYC is the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

I live 3 1/2 hours drive, and do not feel compelled to visit often. The place is a pita. And the last time I used the subway it was so urine soaked I nearly couldn’t get my eyes to focus.

I know it makes no difference but probably the people in 75% of the land area of NYS do not vote democrat. The exact same thing happens in Wa
St. and Oregon. In Oregon, Portland is where the majority of the people live and most are democrats. Whoever carries Mulnomah County carries the state. The people in the other 90% of the state might as well not even vote.
In Wa St it’s Seattle and the rest of King County. People in Eastern Wa might as well stay home because their vote for a republican in a national election is worthless.

Illinois, same story.

In 2014 Rauner (R for Gov) carried EVERY COUNTY BUT COOK (Chicago), this time he did worse and lost the Chi suburbs but still cleaned up downstate in terms of number of counties.

These conservative areas need to start secession movements. And we can’t just ask for it. The people are gonna need to get mad enough to DEMAND freedom or it will never happen. I’m talking civil disobedience+ rioting, whatever it takes.

Things will have to get pretty bad before decent people resort to extreme measures but it should happen. Why should places 200 miles away from Harlem be ruled by it?

I left my home in Western NY 25 years ago and never looked back. Nothing but success since leaving that gawd awful place.

#30. You left out some of the NY City Chinese who used to be mainly Republican but have now been severely infiltrated by Red Chinese operatives and their politicians (City Council/Congress - over time). The same applies to the West Coast Chinese communities where Rep. Judy Chu (D-Ca) is an old member of the pro-Mao Revolutionary Communist Party and functions, in her own words as “a daughter of China”.

For details on Chu and Meng, see www.keywiki.org, search under their names and hold on to your hats.

Agree on the shithole. Visited a couple of times, and couldn’t stand it.

I suspect people who say things like that have never really spent time in a beautiful rural area. America is filled with areas that all throughout the areas, every direction you look will look stunningly beautiful with mountains and streams, or beaches and palm trees and neon blue water. And with air that is so fresh it is a pleasure to breathe. Spend time, or better yet live, in an area like that, with good conservative people, and most cities will be intolerable.

Just like Wolf in Pennsylvania, Wolf won 17 out of 67 and won, needs to be changed!

Nothing new. It is a vote by population, not by number of counties won.

Time to enact a state level, electoral college. Guys like Cuomo wouldn’t stand a chance. And toss the 17th Amendment while you’re at it.

Good news is that NYS will likely lose another House district or two after the next census.

It brings to mind The Hunger Games, where the populous Capital enslaves the Districts.
Big city folks and politicians are happy and content with that domineering relationship.
The ‘hicks’ and ‘rednecks’ be damned.

That is true. They will both come from upstate and western NY. Gerrymandered in such a way as to guarantee a democRAT replaces the current republican so that we can sink even further into third-world status.

“The same applies to the West Coast Chinese communities where Rep. Judy Chu (D-Ca) is an old member of the pro-Mao Revolutionary Communist Party and functions, in her own words as “a daughter of China”.”

And don’t forget that other Chinese a$$hole Ted Lieu. And of course let’s not leave “gun control advocate” Leland Yee from San Francisco who brought in illegal firearms from China and other places for his “friends.” The only good thing about him is he got caught and is in State Prison.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/02/25/ex-calif-state-sen-leeland-yee-gun-control-champion-heading-to-prison-for-weapons-trafficking/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.0362d9bce135

Isn’t all this f*cking diversity great! Our “melting pot” is full of the world’s $HIT!
And yet the American White Voter sits in front of his TV watching “professional sports,” drinking beer and blowing farts, seemingly oblivious to what’s going on around him or her. And when and if he does wake up, he’s looking for a place to which to move where he can “avoid having to do any thing about the basic problems” festering away in front of him. The cognitive dissonance is amazing, and it all ends up that he blames Trump! Go figure!

One of the dumbest articles ever. NYC is where what, 99% of the state’s population lives. Laughable.

My family has been here since 1805. I have very strong ties to NY and the people surrounding me. But we are thinking of leaving soon. I understand why you left— you can only take so much from the corrupt government of this state and the repressive taxes, especially our property taxes, which are outrageous and we get little benefit from them. It doesn’t help that the Republicans run a lot of dud candidates though.

when rats control the largest city, they control the counting of votes....in my state anyway, Seattle never reports its voting until the very last minute....elections have been stolen by that process because they “find” ballots everywhere as needed....
