New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) won re-election for the third time by 22 points last week. But a new report suggests it was nothing to brag about. He handily won New York City, but struggled in the rest of the state, winning only seven of the counties north of the city. In all, he lost 47 of the Empire State's 62 counties.
Cuomo won Onondaga, Monroe, Albany, Erie, Ulster, and Tompkins Counties, which include major cities like Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse. All the other upstate counties overwhelmingly voted for Cuomo's Republican opponent Marc Molinaro, the Dutchess County executive. In many of those places, he had a 20 to 30 percent lead.
Molinaro challenged Cuomo during their sole debate (Molinaro wanted more) about the convictions of his former aide Joe Percoco and Alain Kaloyeros, the Founding President and Chief Executive Officer of the SUNY Polytechnic Institute who oversaw Cuomo's corrupt Buffalo Billions program. Cuomo, Molinaro said, has presided over “the most corrupted state government in America."
An early squabble came over corruption. Mr. Molinaro alluded to the convictions of Messrs. Percoco and Kaloyeros, and accused the governor of presiding over “the most corrupted state government in America.” Mr. Percoco was found guilty of taking bribes from people seeking state development and energy contracts, and Mr. Kaloyeros was found guilty of rigging the bids on high-tech facilities built by SUNY Poly. (Wall Street Journal)
Cuomo shot back, accusing the Republican of bringing "this extreme conservative, divisive cancer that you have brought to this state with Washington."
Still, a map of New York after the election shows plenty of red spots. As The Democrat & Chronicle noted, Cuomo "has New York City to thank" for his win - again.
Sir,
My family has been in the Hudson Valley since 1720. I left in 2013 after 15 years with the NYSP. My Brother just left for NC in July. Get out while you can.
WE NEED TO BREAK OFF AND FORM WESTERN NEW YORK
Left in 1980..never changes...
Seems like elections have basically come down to big cities vs rural America with parties fighting over the burbs.
They don't need to.
The Buffalo suburbs, outside the city proper, are filled with decent traditional Americans, mainly Polish, Irish, and Italian.
They would like nothing better than to see Western New York become its own state.
“New York City is the still the greatest city in the world, despite its politics.”
How can you say that when a large percentage of the Liberal $hit that’s spread itself across the entire country has come from that $hit hole?
“My family has been in the Hudson Valley since 1720. I left in 2013 after 15 years with the NYSP. My Brother just left for NC in July. Get out while you can.”
So you think running away is the answer? What happens when you run out of places to run away from? With folks like you, if you had been in the majority back during the Revolutionary War, there never would have been a United States of America in the first place. So your answer is to turn the best parts of our country over to the Black Trash, Mexicans (and their $hit ball bretheren from Honduras, El Salvador and every other Central and South American craphole country), the Secular Progressive Jews (half of the Jews in the world live in NYC and I’d trade the lot of them for a like number of Israelis who actually know what it is to try and be free), and let’s not forget the Muslims ( who not only want to take over the place where you live, but do their best to kill you before you can leave). And I will bet that you criticize the “Republicans” for their lack of testicular fortitude! Get a mirror, hold it down near your groin , and venture a quick peek!
No city is great, they are dirty, noisy, smelly sh!tholes, infested by Democrats.
How about you screw off. Don’t ever question my guts. I’m not staying in a high tax state, that has zero chance of recovery. As long as you have NYC going 70-80% Dem in state and national elections, that state is hopeless. I’m sure as hell not going to keep funding it. In NT, my vote didn’t mean crap and hasn’t for 20 years. You go ahead and migrate there, enjoy being a slave to an ever increasing deficit machine.
“Seems like elections have basically come down to big cities vs rural America with parties fighting over the burbs.”
Why you’ve broken the code! But the Liberals don’t need the burbs, because the big cities have already enough human trash within their city limits to win without them. And the best example is Nevada. Four million residents, 2.5 million of whom live in Las Vegas. There are no “burbs” in Nevada, Las Vegas IS NEVADA! And don’t get me started on Texas. Texas has some 300 counties, some are about as big as my three-car garage. But you take a half dozen of the biggest ones and you have enough votes to run the whole place.
“As long as you have NYC going 70-80% Dem in state and national elections, that state is hopeless. “
And you think Florida isn’t hopeless? You are just another person who doesn’t have the stomach for a fight. Hope your kids like the legacy you’ve decided to leave them. I can hardly wait for the rest of Puerto Rico to move to Florida. Just hope one of their kids doesn’t knock up your daughter if you have one!
“New York City is the still the greatest city in the world, despite its politics.”
Says who?
I grew up 20 minutes outside of that excrement hole and could not wait to escape when I was 18.
Every time I went into the city I felt like I needed a 1/2 shower just to get the grime off.
You’re in California and your telling me Florida is hopeless? Don’t know who pissed in your Corn Flakes this morning, but I’m not the one. Have a great night.
“Youre in California and your telling me Florida is hopeless? “
I guess it’s hopeless to try and have a conversation with you. California is as bad, if not worse than Florida. So just how does that affect the discussion? I am still here in CA. I don’t plan to leave. You weighed anchor in NY and moved to FL to “get away from the politics you detest.” So just how does that help NY? Answer: It helps the RATs solidify their grip on a state that, like California used to be a nice place to live. There was a time when even NYC wasn’t the $hit hole it’s become, just like the city of my birth, San Francisco. Have a nice life, be at least accept the fact that you cut and ran from NY. And unless your 80 years old, you will ultimately find you have to leave Florida for another place when it becomes ( and it’s almost there because all of NYC moves there to “retire!”) just as unbearable as NY already is.
As you said: “have a great night!”
Got the following message from my liberal daughter who lives in Buffalo.
Im voting across party lines today for the first time in my life .. I hate Cuomo.
Cuomo is as corrupt as they come. He had tons of people indicted around him this year and yet somehow managed to miss the bullet. People all around him being indicted on corruption charges. He is so guilty but money walks and talks and nothing else much matters.
I lived in upstate NY close to Canadian border for years when I got out of the AF. Franklin County. Its the country. In upstate NY its a lot of pickup trucks, country music, county fairs and dairy farms. Republican country and they love Trump. Its a damn shame a few small counties in southern NY control politics but it seems to be that way all over the country. Crime ridden, broken down big cities. Its a damn shame.
She also wrote this.

Upstate should secede.
But let’s be clear this was not a narrow win for Cumomo Jr. He got 59% of the vote. It was nearly the same as the POTUS result 2 years ago with one unfortunate exception being he eked it out in Staten Island and Suffolk county.
Hillary BTW very narrowly carried NY outside of NYC and Cuoumo may have as well, number of counties aside, he won the most populated ones.
