Matthew Whitakers tenure as acting attorney general may only be able to be measured in hours, but hes already made a huge impact in how asylum-seekers are processed at the southern border.
According to a new interim final rule from the Departments of Justice and Homeland Security, those who enter the country illegally and are captured will no longer be able to claim asylum and will instead be returned to their country of origin on an expedited basis.
Consistent with our immigration laws, the President has the broad authority to suspend or restrict the entry of aliens into the United States if he determines it to be in the national interest to do so, Whitaker said in a joint statement with DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.
Todays rule applies this important principle to aliens who violate such a suspension or restriction regarding the southern border imposed by the President by invoking an express authority provided by Congress to restrict eligibility for asylum.
Our asylum system is overwhelmed with too many meritless asylum claims from aliens who place a tremendous burden on our resources, preventing us from being able to expeditiously grant asylum to those who truly deserve it. Today, we are using the authority granted to us by Congress to bar aliens who violate a Presidential suspension of entry or other restriction from asylum eligibility.

How sure are you of that?
You might say it had to have been drawn up to be released so quickly. I see your point there, but Jeff has been late or missing on a lot of things.

DOJ and DHS Issue New Asylum Rule
Applies Presidents authority to suspend entry to asylum
The assylum rule was being abused, and the dems know it. That’s why they are going to protest this VERY hard, and I’m sure sue.
The only way to close a loophole is to remove it. Replace it later with something that can’t be abused so badly
I am not a member of the “Hate Sessions” fanboi club.
I’d be more in favor of shooting them on sight. I know it sounds horrible but the flow of illegals would stop almost immediately. They’ve been taking advantage of us for many decades, now they think it’s their right. We need to show them the hard way that it’s not.
the DOJ is the political nerve center of Fed.gov. Brennan, Clapper and Comey’s attempted coup was run out of the DOJ and FBI. Obama ran his Muslim Brotherhood, #BLM and burn Ferguson political programs at the DOJ
So the AG must be an absolute loyalist to the President. As we saw with Rosenstein and Mueller’s appointment, not having one means a President will be under attack by political opponents, from his own administration.
That is why Session’s participation in this set-up and betrayal was absolutely unforgivable.
FINALLY, someone with common sense, and the guts to carry through.
Worthless Sessions!!!!!
The policy was published in the Federal register today but it was adopted on November 6th.
Has to be done in accordance with existing law. At present the mil is constructing fences with concertina razor wire (or whatever the right words are) to prevent the horde from getting in.
Haha, I knew I was right, THANK YOU!
You have no freaking clue. Read the link above.
Yes, it was. This is a step that is long overdue. Whether Sessions helped it or hindered it is irrelevant - he's gone now and we move forward.
Sessions had a considerable amount of time to come to terms with the duties of his job.
This should have been done within 90 days of start of his tenure.
It was precisely because of his inaction, that he is unemployed today.
Asylum seekers MUST apply for asylum in the first nation they enter outside their own.
If they want to come to the U. S. they must apply to a U. S. embassy before they come here. Then they have to be processed.
People who breach our borders HAVE NO STANDING to request asylum.
Sessions didn’t figure this out by the time he left.
Someone else did. Promptly!
Good riddance!
Wow we now know why lefties all over the states from former CIA directors to their street thugs are going ape over our new AG.

I don’t hate Sessions, but rather believe he was being blackmailed. He was either a part of the establishment all along or had his hands tied.
Okay..so far so good.
Trust The Whitaker.
