When can we stop panicking about “overpopulation,”

Liberals are very selective about which "overpopulation" they're concerned about. When white people in developed countries are having children, they're "overpopulating." When Third World peoples proliferate, that's all wonderful, especially if they then go on to invade developed countries.

The biggest problem facing the growing preponderance of elderly people in developed countries is the very low (for a couple of generations) fertility in developed countries. Japan doesn’t have elderly people committing crimes so they can be cared for in jail - as opposed to not at all - because Niger has a high birthrate.

Nearly 7 in 1980

The Chinese monkeyed with fertility in order to address “overpopulation” fears, and now they are SCROOOD.

Their population is rapidly aging and skews heavily male. They are in a demographic death spiral.

When will people learn that God is smart enough to handle these issues, and we aren’t?

The Mexicans who moved in next door to me are holding up their end - 12 kids so far, working on #13, none of which they can support

I'm surprised too. The ones who come here always seem to have 5 to 10 kids in tow. I think that's a function of the fact that the ones who come to the US aren't representative of Mexico as a whole (i.e. middle class or wealthy Mexicans who have 1-2 kids aren't the ones running across the border at night).

a decade or so later as middle age approaches, they wonder why nobody wants to marry and support them.

Women were sold a bill of goods. They went from holding all the cards to showing their hands. Why should young men behave in a civilized manner when they can be horn dogs with practically any female?

Suckers.

No, Japan's problems aren't due to Nigeria's high birth rates, but many of Nigeria's problems - poverty and crime - are partly due to the fact that people in the slums are having many more children than they or their nation's economy/infrastructure can reasonably provide for. And many of the developed world's problems with mass immigration are due to high levels of immigration from more fertile Third World countries.

Birth control and abortion account for all of it.

World fertility rates ranked by country

Take a look at the top 25. Poor countries have high fertility rates. The wealthier you become, the lower the fertility rate is generally the norm. Singapore has the lowest fertility rate in the world, i.e., .83, well below replacement level of 2.1. China has 1.6. India has 2.43.

You have 1/2 the picture, the other 1/2 is economics.

It’s hard to have kids when your broke, unless someone else is paying for you kids and you don’t mind.

The last 30 years have been very hard on MC/Working American’s. Many aren’t financially able to have families until their 30’s

Of course for many people your explaination is correct not economics.

It still averages to around 3 per woman over her lifetime. I have ten children, and some of my friends have more, but the average family size for white American women is on the low side of 2.

As a child-free person let me at least state my situation.

I never had the "I want to have kids" feeling. Ever. On top of that, my first wife was medically barren. After the 3 years of hell with her, I went over a decade as single.

My current wife and I married in our late 30s. We agreed at that time that we were both too old to have kids (the science is crystal clear).

We discuss our regrets but it has worked out well for us in a lot of ways.

But the loss of fecundity in the West is certainly an issue and I suspect my situation is odd, like the rare "successful single mom."

Developed countries do not have to admit mass quantities of foreigners. They are choosing to do so, in part because they do not have sufficient workers/taxpayers among the ethnic-native population.

Cause and effect, chain of events. One can project as much as one likes, but most countries have self-generated their own set of problems through the actions of their own citizens.

Also child-free. I’ve never had any desire to have kids, and can safely say at this point I never will.

And that’s the way I like it. To each their own.

They are in a demographic death spiral.

The prediction of their demise is a bit premature. China is becoming wealthier. Huge populations are not an asset. China has a population of 1.4 billion, the largest in the world. The median age in China is 37.4 compared to 38.1 for the US. Are we in a demographic death spiral?

Declining birthrates can be addressed by importing more immigrants, like the US and Canada, have done or you can adjust to fewer people like Japan has done using automation to make workers more productive.

There are over 90 million Americans of working age 16 to 65, not in the workforce.
