Why can we call the Democrats taking the House this early? Fox News anchor Bret Baier asked analyst Chris Stirewalt. Because were just that good, Stirewalt replied with a proud smirk.
That just about sums up Foxs election coverage of the 2018 midterms. It was a self-indulgent display of self-promotion, bickering, and irresponsibility as the entire House was called before polls in the western part of the country had even closed. One has to wonder how many people were deterred from voting when they heard Republicans had already lost the House.
There was a time when news media covered elections without needing to be the first horse out of the gate with results. Reporters would patiently wait for polls to close, for the numbers to be tallied, and for a clear winner to be tabulated. That changed with exit polling and guesses about whether these reflected what really happened inside the voting booths.
Last night, Fox News jumped the shark. They had a new system they claimed would deliver unprecedented accuracy -- they used voters surveys along with the APs race results to predict outcomes. With this methodology, they called the House before anyone else -- to the anger of many viewers.
With just two gains by Democrats and still early in the evening, Baier suddenly announced that the Democrats had taken the House. Not we project that theyve taken the House (an addition they made later after, no doubt because complaints flooded their phone lines). Not simply we think this will be a good night for the Democrats based on our analysis. Nope, they jumped ahead in time and declared it as if it had already occurred -- with many people not even voting yet.

Dreadful performance. I’m out.
Unwatchable.
Been so for awhile now.
Stirewalt coming out grinning saying, The Democrats have taken the House! When his own frigging graphic says +2 was astonishingly stupid. If he has that little situational awareness he is just a Darwin Award waiting to happen.
FOX IS NOT YOUR FRIEND. Dump Faux News for One America News because OAN IS what Faux pretends to be.
Both media malpractice, and interfering with an election!
Personally, I have been watching CNN today. I know they all hate Trump. Makes it easy.
They always act that way when the Dims when. A number of years ago when the Dims won, Hume said, We can now announce the Dems have taken the House! If I could send up skyrockets, I would!
The west coast is blue territory throughout, and those were the voters still left to be counted. It’s easy to predict the thoroughly blue states; they’re too predictable and that’s why FOX could issue their early prediction for the house flipping to the democrats. Early prediction or not, the results would’ve been the same, when the only areas left to predict were thoroughly blue.
The voters who did not bother to vote because a news network told them that the Democrats would win the House should lose their voting rights.
We dont get OAN in Arizona.........
It is very simple to understand. FoxNews is stacked with elitist Republican types who HATE the idea of Trump. It is their elite party and they cannot abide by us cretins, us low class morons thinking we control the party.
They had a plan and it was executed flawlessly. First step, lose Congress. They went to work in the House by having a mass retirement and Paul Ryan work his do nothing magic.
Step two: assemble the usual suspects to blame Trump and try to sell all of us dumb cretins that we needed to turn back to the GOPe saviors.
Fox is in on it and assembled their crew of RINO’s to force feed manure. They out MSNBC’d MSNBC las night and I am DONE WITH THEM.
It's a sensationalist tabloid TV network that is so amateurish and unprofessional I'd describe it as clownish. For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would waste two minutes of their life watching that slop.
Chris Stirewalt is an a-hole. I don’t like him. Never did.
As bad as you could possibly imagine and they managed to do it without Shep.
DirecTV has it - I’m watching it here in Buckeye..
Me, too.
I’ll miss Tucker Carlson and Lou Dobbs, but last night was the last straw. I’m done.
We have Cox, or Century Link here on the east side.
