California voters reject repeal of state gas tax and vehicle fee increase
LA Times ^ | November 7, 2018 | Patrick McGreeby

Proposition 6, which would have repealed an increase in California’s gas tax, failed to win the majority vote needed for passage on Tuesday after Gov. Jerry Brown warned it would halt urgent repairs to the state’s crumbling roads and bridges.

Brown, who leaves office in January, said after the first vote tallies were announced that it was important that the initiative be defeated for the future of the state.

“This is one of the most significant votes in America tonight, because where else have people voted to tax themselves to pay for what they need?” Brown said to cheers at a Sacramento election watch party thrown by the initiative’s opponents.

“People know that you get what you pay for,” he added. “The people knew that the flim-flam of the yes people were exposed. When this Trump recession comes we’re going to have $5 billion going to transit and roads and bridges in California.”

Like in WA it’ll all go into the general fund to pay for free goodies to gain votes.

.
Bridges are excellent, except for the east span of the Bay Bridge, which sits on fractured chinese J-Bolts, and will fall over when the next big quake hits.

The crumbling roads are all in Dem controlled suburban cities.

California Proposition 6 was Carl DeMaio's "Gas Tax Repeal"

In 2017, with virtually no notice to the public, Democrats in the California State Legislature crammed through a massive hike to the Car and Gas Tax. Carl DeMaio fought hard to get this repeal on the ballot. But the dishonest secretary of state and election officials crafted a very misleading ballot summary statement which distorted the intent and effect of the measure.

All that most californian's knew about the measure is what what was printed in the ballot:

PROP 6 ELIMINATES CERTAIN ROAD REPAIR AND TRANSPORTATION FUNDING. REQUIRES CERTAIN FUEL TAXES AND VEHICLE FEES BE APPROVED BY THE ELECTORATE. INITIATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMANDMENT. Repeals a 2017 transportation law's taxes and fees designated for road repairs and public transportation. Fiscal Impact: Reduced ongoing revenues of $5.1 billion from state fuel and vehicle taxes that mainly would have paid for highway and road maintenace and repairs, as well as transit programs.
San Diego Union Tribute quoted DeMaio here

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/transportation/sd-me-prop6-gas-tax-20181106-story.html

"We've been a David versus Goliath camp since day one," said DeMaio, who blamed the measure’s poor showing on what he called confusing ballot language.

"We were hampered by a misleading ballot statement," he added. "This shows the politicians have been stealing our gas taxes, and now they’re trying to steal our votes."

"The politicians are trying to deceive the voters," said Carl DeMaio, chairman for Yes on Prop 6. "They are trying to bully voters into approving a measure that costs them more."

California Governor Brown, who has labeled DeMaio a "political terrorist," held his only campaign event of the season on Friday, denouncing the repeal effort at a Bay Area rally as a "scam."

In related news, California voters have the lowest IQ and reasoning ability of any in the nation. In either language.

Prop 6 lost because the crooked California AG Xavier Becerra gave the proposition a misleading title:

“Eliminates Certain Road Repair and Transportation Funding.”

Firefighter, Highway Patrol, and Civil Engineer associations ran ads against the Prop claiming it would result in bridges falling down, road repair stopping, and worse traffic.

The lesson here to Cali voters is that you can no longer trust the CHP, firefighters, and the other lying pricks who you once would have mistakenly believed to be honest.

Brown is, and always has been, a LYING POS. A tax and power crazy MARXIST. And so is his replacement. We now have a totalitarian, one-party state given the resulting super-majority in the state legislature. The RATS are free to tax what little is left of Kalifornia out of existence.

And on top of this, the Repubs gave away the election by deserting (retiring) Trump and giving him NO HELP and support. It just sucks.

“On my California ballot I was was about 2 - 30 (not counting judges).”

Me too. I was surprised to see Prop 5 fail, it would have benefited everyone with Prop 13 taxes if they want to move.

The proposition was badly worded. Very few knew it would repeal the gas tax.

More crooked politics in California.

“I guess he wants to make sure California is always Commie”

Oh no...I think he wants to spread the “California Revolution” to the entire nation. It’s what they’ve always wanted. And they’re making quite a few inroads in that effort.

Yesterday afternoon Nov. 6th. we went to Costco over in Moreno Valley. As we drove down one particular street with a large government office complex we saw a traffic control person directing vehicles in, and out of the facility. We saw literally hundreds of cars going into, and out of the parking facilities of the complex. We were both quite curious having never seen such crowds there before.

We went on to Costco, and bought up the sale items we went for, and headed back home to Glen Valley.

On the way back we were stopped by the traffic control person(s), and we waited about five minutes as they allowed traffic (hundreds of cars) to turn into the government facility. My wife saw an American flag, and a “VOTA” sign, and told me they were probably there for same day registration, and voting.

I think she was correct. This facility is in an area surrounded by fields, shopping malls, medical facilities, fast food places, and no residences anywhere nearby that would warrant a neighborhood polling facility as we have in Glen Valley.

Perhaps somebody out there in FReeperland knowledgeable of that area, and more so the government facility which I believe has something to do with welfare could explain what we witnessed.

Firefighter, Highway Patrol, and Civil Engineer associations
= = =

I think these were fake ‘associations’ made up for the ads.

I know some Texans are not pleased that my wife and I moved from California to Texas last month to be closer to our only child. But others, when we explain nonsense like this being additional reasons why we won't miss California, start to understand.

Wait for Gov. Newsom to start with his promise to incrementally repeal Prop 13. As retirees (me @ 60), I am so glad I won't have to experience that frustration.
