Just remember, its not paranoia if theyre really out to get you. In this case, though, its likelier to be paranoia than prophecy. The Daily Beast reports on the existential angst facing progressives if they come up short in their bid to win the House:
"Nearly two years of organizing, marching, candidate recruitment and unprecedented fundraising has led the Democratic party to a critical moment. On Tuesday, it can either reassert itself politically or fall short, prompting an utter and complete psychological meltdown.
Most in the party believe that the path they will go down will be the former; that they will gain a majority in the House of Representatives for the first time since former President Barack Obamas first term. But paranoia is part of the Democratic DNA, especially after the shock of the 2016 election. And in the final stretch of the midterm campaign, a scenario in which the party is unable to flip the requisite 23 House seats looms in the dark recesses of the mind.
It will be paralyzing for a while, it will, said Neera Tanden, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress. Candidly, I think there will be a fair amount of soul searching and people will feel back on their heels We will have to rebuild. But the resistance is built on opposition to [Donald] Trumps extremism. And the more extreme he is, the more we will have.
Or, as veteran Democratic strategist Paul Begala put it: After all this work, all these volunteers, it would be absolutely shattering. "
Lets say they do lose this opportunity. It might be shattering for progressives like Tanden the CPA because of their insistence that Democrats had to embrace a hard-Left agenda to become competitive. It would spell the end of Nancy Pelosis career, one of their House champions, and it might force her entire slate of leadership to give way to more moderate leaders from the Midwest and Rust Belt, where Democrats have had trouble competing. They might need to rethink their DNC leadership too, but Democrats wont be paralyzed any more than Republicans were after losing in 2006 and 2008.
ETC...
I look forward to it.
Yes, and they somehow equate the freest, happiest, most prosperous state of the nation since Reagan with a prison or a tomb.
Truly deranged.
It will be interesting indeed to see the reactions if R's hold both houses.
There will be no "Russians" to blame, only their own proglib neo-communist Party.
.
On the one hand, I very very very much want to see another Leftist meltdown like 2016. I still go watch those videos from time to time. Those are treasures.
On the other hand....I don’t want them to wise up or edge in the direction of sanity for the 2020 election. I want to see President Trump do it to them again. If we hold the Senate - and I’m convinced we’ll increase our majority there - we can still reshape the courts.
Many people want to believe this is solely a referendum on Trump.
There are also local issues some people aren't taking into consideration.
People will not only be voting for the Trump agenda but issues close to home.
My prediction. Expect surprise wins and surprise loses on both sides because it's not all about Trump.
Second, Trump has a 40% approval rating among African-Americans. Most GOP poll about 5%. That means, it's more like 50-60%. Even if it isn't, that means a lot of AA's are staying home, or voting for the GOP candidate in the privacy of the voting booth.
I predict a bloodbath for the Democrats tomorrow night. MSNBC and Young Turks will be must-see television.
Called relatives in several states and urged them to vote RED. Happy to report some of my Democrat cousins in Florida voted for DeSantis, but unfortunately turned around and voted for Nelson. Oh well.
No mention that someone on 4chan is predicting that Democrats and leftists will commit mass suicide rather than face an America dominated by Republicans and conservatives.
Of course this is tongue-in-cheek, suggesting that if Democrats unhinged behavior up until now is any guide, they could totally lose it.
The only thing I know for sure, is that next week will begin the endless daily/hourly parade of pundits, experts, pollsters, opiners, consultants, etc. droning on and on with the big “countdown to election 2020”.
They show pictures from closeup angles which don't show the masses coming for Trump and even photoshop people into the crowds for Hillary.
Im going to set up a new suicide hotline for despondent Rats on election night: Dial 1-800-RATS SAD
I will offer compassionate suggestions and advice, if you know what I meanand Im pretty sure you do LMAO!
Excellent comment. These pansies have no idea.
Cook is predicting up to 45 seat gain for House Democrats.
There will be no soul searching. Dems never consider that they may be wrong about something. If there is something wrong, they just project it by accusing everybody else of doing it.
Yes, I almost have mixed feelings. If the Dems fail to capture the House, it might (and I repeat MIGHT) force them to make room for moderates in their party. That would be good for the nation, as that would open the door to some bipartisan cooperation around Trump’s agenda. But, it would also allow them to begin to rebuild, and eventually, they’d take power again and continue with their project of “fundamentally transforming America”.
On the other hand, if they win the House, then they will continue to trend towards batsh*t crazy except now their antics will be on display for the world to see, as it was with Kavanaugh, but times 100. That might actually be worse for them going into 2020 and beyond.
How accurate were Cooks’ predictions in 2016?
Only a hopelessly brainwashed lemming could have been surprised by Hillary's loss to Trump.
First of all, it's almost impossible for either of the major parties to hold onto the White House for three consecutive terms. It's only been done once in the last sixty-five years (Reagan, Reagan, Bush).
That was only possible because Reagan was such a successful president, and was widely loved and respected - even amongst many Democrats.
Obama was not a successful president, and was not widely loved and respected - even amongst many Democrats. Certainly not amongst Republicans. He had no coat tails for Hillary to ride.
Secondly, a party had better put their absolute best candidate forward, if they hope to have any chance of bucking the odds in that scenario. The Democrats put their absolute worst candidate forward, virtually guaranteeing a loss to the Republicans.
Meanwhile, the Republicans wound up with a nominee who couldn't have been more well suited to the dynamics of that precise moment in history. The real surprise is that he didn't win by an even larger margin than he did.
Only brain dead liberals and the tragically uninformed ever thought the outcome would be different.
And as far as them moderating for 2020... don't count on it. They are convinced Socialism is exciting and attractive to young voters. Watch for them to double down on it.
The saltiness of their tears will be like honey on our lips :)
