FULL TITLE: New York Democrats drafting bill to screen social media accounts, Internet search history of gun buyers
If two New York Democrats have their way, prospective gun buyers in the state will have three years of their social media interactions screened as part of the background check process.
On Friday, WCBS 880 reported that Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and state Sen. Kevin Palmer are drafting a proposal that would let authorities review three years of social media history and one year of internet search history of anyone seeking to purchase a firearm in the state.
A three-year review of a social media profile would give an easy profile of a person who is not suitable to hold and possess a fire arm, Adams told the radio station. If the police department is reviewing a gang assault, a robbery, some type of shooting, they go and do a social media profile investigation, he explained.
So, what are they looking for? According to reports, they would be searching for hate speech, or anything that might suggest the potential buyer is someone who would commit a crime.
In short, its a quick intro to a real-life Minority Report.

Big Brother Democrats at it again!
Gee, just like China. Hmmmmm.
Another state should do the same with those registering to vote.
Both are constitutional rights...

Hate speech.... Vote republican, believe in the constitution, limited government, anti abortion, against taxes, or want to buy a gun.
Look, Ludwig. This guy is a Trump supporter. Hand me the “Denied” stamp...(laughter).
Thank God for Trump and a 5-4 Conservative majority (soon to be 6-3)
It’s a curious thing. You line up a hundred guys with ‘applications’, then mandate this internet history ‘gimmick’....just figuring man-hours required (3 years of social media commentary and 1 year of internet searches)...for that group of a hundred, you are talking about potentially 2,000 man-hours of effort. You’d have to have a staff of at least 200 folks, even if you hoped to get this group approved in four to six months.
My guess is that some street-geek will be around...that you pay $300 to, and over some weekend...he dissolves all traces of your browser history and social media commentary. Oh, just for the record....criminals don’t need to worry...the law won’t apply to you.
Isn’t this “PROFILING”? I thought Democrats were against profiling.
Scratch a Democrat and find a Totalitarian Dictator.
Totalitarian mind control, coming from the democrats. Another reason why I’m voting the democrat mob OUT!
Lunatic liberals are fulfilling Orwellian ideas more and more with each passing day. Now, it’s officially the “thought police” codified into law.
And, if you have no social media info you’ll automatically be classified as anti-social. Is that about right? Unless they see FR as social media. “No social media? What are you hiding? What don’t you want us to know?” Yup! Kavanaughed!

How is hate speech determined? Sounds very subjective and open for real abuse to me. I want to keep weapons out of the hands of wackos, but this seems to have the capability to be abused and deny someone based upon how he might have sounded on the internet. What people say when they think they are somewhat anonymous really is not a good indicator of what they are capable of really doing in reality. As they say talk is cheap, and many people on the internet offer nothing but cheap talk.
Bring it.
The SCOTUS smackdown would be epic.
And decisive, re: most all of Bill of Rights.
Democrats => Demoncrats
