Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman described slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi as a dangerous Islamist days after his disappearance in a phone call with President Trumps son-in-law Jared Kushner and national security adviser John Bolton, according to people familiar with the discussion.
In the call, which occurred before the kingdom publicly acknowledged killing Khashoggi, the crown prince urged Kushner and Bolton to preserve the U.S.-Saudi alliance and said the journalist was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, a group long opposed by Bolton and other senior Trump officials.
The attempt to criticize Khashoggi in private stands in contrast to the Saudi governments later public statements decrying the journalists death as a terrible mistake and a terrible tragedy.
The incident that happened is very painful, for all Saudis, the crown prince, the kingdoms de facto leader, said during a panel discussion last week. The incident is not justifiable.
The Saudi ambassador to the United States, Khalid bin Salman, described Khashoggi last month as a friend who dedicated a great portion of his life to serve his country.
In a statement released to The Washington Post, Khashoggis family called the characterization of the columnist as dangerous Islamist inaccurate.

And now there’s one fewer. Billions to go.
Was Khashoggi part of a coup to take out bin Salman?
Golly! I hope they can pin down who the leaker is! Unless, of course, this is just Fake News.
I really don’t get the panty twisting here.
One muzzie dies at the hand of other muzzies. Happens every day.
So why is this being dragged on and on and on?
Cause it happened to a Compost gerbalist. And so they will piss and moan about it for weeks and weeks.
Who cares? Move on.
Trump is making headway with Saudi Arabia. Can’t have that. Have to manufacture a scandal to scuttle it.
That’s a good question. The media can conspire to steal elections and even be outright involved in a soft coup against our current President.
They get away with that.
Yet some Khashoggi tries to interfere with the House of Saud?
/insert head chop
Someone’s trying to gin up a game of lets-you-and-him-fight.
Here’s how upset I am over any aspect of this ‘story’:
Hey nobody’s crying for the guy I just don’t get why the Saudis have to turn a simple assassination into a Quentin Tarantino movie.

They’re arabs.
Bingo!
Give that man a bowl of Humus & pita bread!
You would think by now they would have learned what overkill means.
I have to assume that the deceased had tipped the Turks off as to his visit and they caught the Saudis in the act. No way he would have set foot in SA. Kashoggi was paranoid but just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean somebody’s not out to get you. At least they didn’t do it here.
Learned and arab don’t go well together. Hench, culture and society stuck at the 7th century.

I certainly could have told the president that, long before the crown prince did.
If true, the Saudis should have arrested, fairly tried, and, upon his conviction, executed him, which would have avoided all the recent problems with his mysterious disappearance.
Maybe he still is. He could be a suicide martyr for the cause.
