A Republican lobbyist’s plan to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller by smearing him with sexual harassment allegations fell apart Thursday when the lobbyist failed to produce the woman.
Jack Burkman, a GOP activist and lobbyist, had scheduled a Thursday press conference in Arlington, Virginia, to produce a woman he said was going to disclose sexual misconduct allegations against Mr. Mueller, who is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election.

When they can’t produce a bit of evidence and the witness won’t show, there’s a pretty good chance that it’s a scam.
I figured that whole thing was a scam.
Who are we to say it's a scam? I'm sticking to the standard. I believe survivors. Even if they can't or won't articulate their accusation.

I think even the few that embraced the story only did it for “hoist on their own petard” giggles. Nobody took it seriously.

Who’s to say Herr Mueller himself wasn’t behind this.
1. He denies the story before it even becomes a story.
2. Whitey Bulger suddenly is killed in prison.
3. We now have some nobody taking the fall for this.

I said on at least one other thread, that I have no idea if it is true, false, or sideways.
But to have someone actually knowingly pursuing people who have done nothing, and having process charges brought against them...and reveling in it...
I am all for anyone pursuing him with any charges, true, false, or indifferent. I don’t care.
While I would rather have responsible people step in and shut him down, nobody is doing it and Mueller and his team aren’t being made to pay for their actions, this is a suitable entertainment.
I can’t apologize for that. If that makes me a bad person, I will live with it.

That description suits me to a "T" (and on a post yesterday, I believe I even used that exact "petard" phrase).
I try to be good about these kinds of things, but at the same time, I like to take the attitude of Robert Duvall's character (Boss Spearman) in one of my favorite movies "Open Range":
"We'll drink to good health for them that have it coming."
It might be rephrased to "We'll bring justice to them who have it coming", because Mueller and his team would (and have) bring injustice on any of us if it suited his political goals. He and his team are scum of the highest order.
I was more referring to making false accusations. You are correct, this didn't get o the Kavanaugh level.

If it was a scam, why didn’t they just claim the witness is afraid of flying??
