Jewish Americans are flocking to firearms training in the wake of the October 27 attack on Tree of Life Synagogue that killed 11 people.
For example, Haaretz reports that the Cherev Gidon Israeli Tactical Defense Academy near Scranton, Pennsylvania, is witnessing the highest demand for training it has ever seen.
Yonatan Stern, a veteran officer of the Israel Defense Forces and director of the academy, reminds his Scranton, Pennsylvania, classes: The fact is, were at war. We want Jews everywhere to be armed.
Stern indicates that hundreds of people interested in firearms training contacted him during the three days after the Pittsburgh attack. He observed that all but three or four of them were Jewish.
And while there are some members of the Jewish community pushing back against the idea of using guns to keep synagogues safe, Stern notes, To wait for law enforcement to arrive simply is not the answer.
Zev Guttman was afraid of guns until Saturdays attack, but now he chooses to be armed. He said, Everybody has to find a way to react; this is my way.
Brooklyn borough president Eric L. Abrams reacted to the Pittsburgh attack by making clear he will be armed when he goes to a synagogue. He said, Its not popular, but its right. He added, We have to live in the real universe that were in.

Smart move, after all Democratic Party encourages their destruction.
Tell that to all of the Jews living in New York City, New Jersey, or Maryland.
They have very limited choices, or in the case of NYC, in practice they have no choice at all.
They could choose to live elsewhere, but they like it there and everything that comes with it.
Good point. Forgot about state and local. Like they were saying about Tx this AM. Refugees from blue states moving in. The progressive infection spreading.
I always carry. I know for a fact that others in my congregation do as well. I pay attention to where they are. I make sure to sit where I'll be most effective should anything happen.
very sad that it took such tragedy to spark this movement, but every law-abiding citizen should be armed, especially any kind of groups that might be especially targeted by nutjobs ...
“...a large percentage of our population that cant be trusted not to use a vehicle as a weapon. Ergo, a decision was made to restrict firearm ownership.”
Don’t quite see the connection there, but I would like to know: are retired IDF reservists allowed to keep their service weapon? This is the case in Switzerland, though upon retirement the rifle is altered to semi-auto fire only.
Guess gun collecting as in America is unknown in Israel outside of museums?
Wrong answer. The Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America should apply equally to everyone, everywhere. Period.
I agree, but I was responding to your statement that they have no choice. In reality part of the reason that the 2nd isn’t honored where they live is because that’s the way most of them vote.
“Are retired IDF reservists allowed to keep their service weapon?”
Most, yes. It’s officer grade for sure, and this has worked its way down to most senior enlisted (which everyone is if you serve long enough to retire).
I was (am) a pilot, so I was always officer; ergo I don’t know the specifics.
And, yes, gun collecting is pretty rare. Some do it, but there are many restrictions.
Also, if you live in a settlement or a rural, the rules for civilians are greatly relaxed -— shotgun and pistol being the norm.
Free training provided, as well.
“Dont quite see the connection there, “
Well, if civilian ownership was generally permitted, the bad guys would get guns.
Recall, we started at a different point than the USA, where the bad guys already have guns.
Thank G-d! Every Jewish American who is legally permitted to own firearms and mentally stable should have them and should train with them at least once a month. The same for all Christians and for all other decent Americans.
It will also be essential for keeping your hands on your weapon (weapon retention)
What I don’t see is the connection between vehicular terrorism and civilian gun ownership. Sounds like large vehicles & construction equipment should be closely guarded.
“Bad guys’ guns start out as good guys’ guns” is often used by gun controllers here; ownership creates supply for criminals, they preach. But it is now a requirement of responsible gun ownership to secure them in a safe.
In 1776 the British were the bad guys and they had guns, but so did Americans revolting against British rule. BTW I studied the 1948 War for Independence and Britain was IMO no friend of Jews fighting for their own state. But when sufficient numbers of Israelis were bearing arms, their survival became possible.
Americans are derided by other countries for distrusting our government. Well, it’s true. Good that we have the right to bear arms guaranteed by the Bill of Rights.
Am Israel Chai!
I recall the WWII story that ends, ...but Sgt. if I have bullets in my rifle there aint going to be no bayonet fighting.
I have scattered "Grandpa Jack" pamphlets (comic books) in business waiting rooms, work breakrooms, doctor and dentist offices in a long standing effort to reach not just Jews but every potential gun owner.
The titles are provocative: "Gun Control Kills Kids", my fav.
You made me laugh! :)
Dov Hikind may be fortunate enough to get a gun license, but what chance does the average Jew (or average person) in NYC have of getting one when they are issued by a city government presided over by a leftist named DeBlasio?
Well, I carry a 7 shot .357. Smith & Wesson, performance division. Matt silver with a lovely wooden grip. 3.5 inch barrel, I think. Maybe 4.
And, yes, I have a carry license for NYC.
All in, with legal fees, I think it was $5K.
