Pittsburgh mayor to Trump: Armed guards are not the answer
NBC News ^ | October 28, 2018

WASHINGTON — Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto said Sunday that he disagrees with President Donald Trump's call for more armed guards at places of worship in order to prevent shootings like the one that claimed the lives of 11 congregants at a synagogue in the city on Saturday.

Instead, Peduto told NBC's "Meet the Press," he believes that gun control measures would go further to help stop these shootings.

"I belong to an organization, a bipartisan organization, called Mayors Against Illegal Guns. I don't think that the answer to this problem is solved by having our synagogues, mosques and churches filled with armed guards or schools filled with armed guards," Peduto said.

Not until the victims of maniacs grow tired of no-answer, hack politicians, will things change for the better. And god bless Trump for going on the offensive after this tragedy.

I guess he would feel better if the Perp tossed some Molotov Cocktails into the Synagogue and the People burned to death.

Wherever there are sheep, there will be wolves. Always has been, always will be.

Endless ruminations and pronouncements that we have to find a solution, stop the killing, etc. are useless. Valid, morally correct, but useless.

Endless studies that try to correlate and quantify mass murder, again, are useless. You can’t rationalize the irrational.

You can’t stop people that combine crazy with hate anymore than you can fight earthquakes.

This is the price of a free society that chooses to gather together for any number of reasons.

Harden yourselves anyway you can.

What an idiot.

I guess they never heard of the black market.

Criminals and those who want will ALWAYS have access to guns. And they will get them and use them, and having gun control makes the rest of us fish in a barrel.

Prohibition didn't work.

The war on drugs is not working.

Gun control will not work.

The government cannot legislate our safety into being. It is not capable of protecting us through legislation.

The Mayor is sorta right. The answer is not armed guards. The answer is an armed congregation.

I was in a church this morning that has uniformed LEO’s who are members of the church openly carrying.

I didn’t hear one complaint.

I also know another church in our area where members have concealed carry permits and do so during church. I’d trust any one of them with a loaded gun on their person.

You are right Peduto. Outlaw guns and the bad guys can’t get them and law abiding citizens can’t hurt themselves.

WHAT AN IDIOT.

As soon as i saw his finely coiffured mustache and beard, I knew he was an elitist IDIOT.

Isn’t this the guy who heads up “***hole Governors Against the American Bill of Rights?” The fact that this ***hole politician wants to disarm Americans is the same reason why Americans can’t let them do it.

No guns to protect Jews, why does this sound familiar, Mayor?

Disarmament of the German Jews
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Disarmament of the German Jews started in 1933, initially limited to local areas. A major target was Berlin, where large-scale raids in search for weaponry took place. Starting in 1936, the Gestapo prohibited German police offices from giving firearms licenses to Jews.[1] In November 1938, the Verordnung gegen den Waffenbesitz der Juden prohibited the possession of Firearms and bladed weapons by Jews.

Weimar Republic
The legal foundations that the National Socialists later used for the purpose of disarming the Jews were already laid during the Weimar Republic. Starting with the Reichsgesetz über Schusswaffen und Munition (Reich law on firearms and ammunition), enacted on 12 April 1928, weapon purchase permits were introduced, which only allowed “authorized persons” the purchase and possession of firearms. Mandatory registration of weapons was introduced, which gave the government the opportunity of accessing weapon owner and their weapons at any given time. Manufacture and sale of weapons was only permitted if authorized so. The purpose was to ensure that firearms were only issued to “reliable individuals”. Starting in 1930, bladed weapons were also regulated. The carrying of weapons in public now required a weapons permit.
Takeover of the National Socialists
Police raid in the Scheunenviertel (Berlin 1933). Residents of a house on Grenadier-Street are searched for weapons, and have their permits checked.

Immediately following the „Machtergreifung“ in 1933, the weapon laws of the Weimar Republic were used to disarm Jews, or to use the excuse of “searching for weapons” as a justification for raids and searches of homes. Because the weapons law of 1928 gave the police the authority to issue or withdraw weapon permits, Jewish weapon owners were disarmed through warrants issued by the police. For instance, the president of the police of Breslau enacted an order on 21 April 1933 which stated that Jews had to give their weapons and shooting permits to the police immediately. After the Jewish population was judged as not to be trusted, no weapon permits were issued to them.[2]

The weapons law was also used for searches of homes and raids. The preface for that was the allegation that the victims of these searches stored large amounts of weapons and ammunition. A prominent example is Albert Einstein, whose summer residence in Caputh, near the Schwielowsee was searched in spring 1933. The only item found there was a bread knife.[3] Raids, for instance on 4 April 1933 at the Scheunenviertel in Berlin, also took place. Not only many weapons were found, but also a lot of publications that included criticism of the Third Reich. Sometimes, Jews without residence permits were also found and arrested.

Starting in 1935, the Gestapo prevented the issue of weapon permits and weapon purchase permits to Jews.[2] The police authorities were the executing authorities, and had to comply with the orders issued by the Gestapo. The self-defense of Jews was abolished and they were subjected to the arbitrariness and terror of the police authorities, without the need to introduce a new law for this.

"I belong to an organization, a bipartisan organization, called Mayors Against Illegal Guns. I don't think that the answer to this problem is solved by having our synagogues, mosques and churches filled with armed guards or schools filled with armed guards," Peduto said.

I, too, belong to a bipartisan organization, called the NRA and I am a member of the Catholic Church and a resident of Western Pennsylvania.

When in Pittsburgh, or any near by community and I go to Mass, Confession, or just walk into a Catholic Church, a Protestant Church, or a Synagogue to pay my respects, I am legally armed and I will try to protect anyone that happens to be there, from a crazy man shooting regular people.

I may not succeed, but I will try and will not go to see my God, like a victim being loaded into a railroad car, because some sonofabitch has a gun and a hatred of something that he doesn't like.

If mayor peduto feels so strongly about no armed guards in places of worship or schools, how about him giving up his armed security guards?

Watcha say, yerhonor?

Apparently, this synagogue was completely secured during the week, requiring anyone wishing to enter to first ring a bell and be let in. The doors were wide open on Saturday (Shabbat). It doesn’t make any sense. If the congregation is threatened, it is threatened every day, not just weekdays.

I already posted on this subject so forgive me, but

(a) Armed guards take effect immediately, gun laws might never cure these shootings, certainly not in the near term.

(b) Let each organization decide how it wants to defend itself.
