FilmStruck, a streaming service that specialized in classic movies, including those from the highly regarded Criterion Collection, is shutting down.
The streaming service announced Friday that FilmStruck will shut down on Nov. 29, and is offering customers the ability to get refunds for any months remaining in their plan. The service will not be accepting any new customers as it winds down.

The old ObamaCare Web Developers must have created it.
I couldn’t buy into because they never offered the whole Criterion Collection. They had “themed” curation like a museum! Baloney in this day and age.
Never heard of it. Maybe part of the problem.
Netflicks is terrible. Tried their free one month service twice. Wasn’t’t good enough to subscribe. Can’t even look into their ‘catalog’ due to some kind of infringement. How does one buy when they don’t know what they’re buying?
Almost all we’re left with for older films is Hulu, which is very limited and <B movies mostly. Plus, you have to put up with the homo-flick promotions frequently.
Have you tried their pay service?
Dang! I just bought it this summer. I liked it. I doubt that I would have kept it a second year. I’ll have to watch the movies on my list soon.
If you get DVDs you theoretically get a larger selection, but they've stopped stocking their DVD collection. As the DVDs get damaged the wait times become longer and longer. Also Netflix probably lies to its customers by saying "Long Wait Time" when in fact they mean "Never" because the last good DVD went missing or was destroyed.
I wish Netflix as remained a distribution platform.
I wish Turner Classic movies (the old version) was available on Roku. I miss the old 40’s movies.
HULU used to have all the Criterion films. Criterion left HULU when Filmstruck started up. This announcement sets back cord-cutting a bit. At least it would for me. The main thing I watch is classic films. One reason I have not cut the cord is that I love Turner Classic Movies. There is no alternative to their programming on any streaming service.
Netflix also jacked up their rates recently. I decided to drop them because we already have access to most of the stuff that we are interested in on Amazon Prime and Hulu.
I actually really liked the idea and had it there for a while. Sort of a streaming version of what AMC or Turner Classic Movies used to be. They never made an app for Xbox or any of the devices I regularly use though.
It kind of goes along with how anything with art, culture, history and classics doesn’t get the ratings like how all the learning channels devolved into reality TV. The History channel is all Pawn Stars or Ancient Aliens and TLC or any of the others are even worse and completely unwatchable. pbs is maybe the only thing like that left but everyone hates it
I recommend TUBI. They have vast selection of good films and the service is free, supported via commercials.
One of the primary streaming services for KDrama and Asian TV and movies, DramaFever, was bought by Warner Brothers and then shut down.
anyone looking for old movies, new movies, new tv shows and the ones many of us grew up with,, sports, local channels, ppv should really check this out,, thousands of channels,, $ 15 a month, free trails,,, all ya need is decent internet and most any device,,, xbox, firetv, android device, tablet, laptop, pc http://BarryzTv.com
I cut cable 12 years ago. The only thing I missed was TCM and baseball.
I buy MLB.TV in the spring- 100 bucks
Finally discovered you can get TCM on Sling TV if you purchase the $5 extra movie package. It was 25/month but just increased to $30.
I use Roku.
Yea, all those good channels went reality and I don’t watch them any more. A lot of their old content is available on Youtube if you want to hunt for it, but watching a special about the F117 for the umpteenth time has lost it’s luster.
TCM is still my fav. I have to use my laptop for the TV but it’s beats the others hands down.
They would have gone the way of Blockbuster.
I know Freepers like to gratuitously dump on Netflix because they are doing that stupid Obama series or whatever. I happen to be very happy with Netflix. I find plenty of content there that I like and I ignore whatever left-wing garbage they have there. Well, except for that Portlandia show, because to me, they are making fun of the leftists.
I also like Amazon Prime and YouTube. Each of those services have plenty of content to watch (and it is easy to avoid the content I do not like).
Video on demand - this is what I always wanted. Now it's here.
One reason it was great was the price. Only $11 a month, less than the cost of my average Blu-ray purchase.
I hope the Criterion and TCM films end up being streamable somewhere else, as I find next to nothing to watch on Netflix, Amazon Video and Hulu, as I don't watch TV shows.
