What if the Republicans Win Everything Again?
The NewYork Times ^ | October 19,2018 | By David Leonhardt

The end of Robert Mueller’s investigation. The loss of health insurance for several million people. New laws that make it harder to vote. More tax cuts for the rich. More damage to the environment. A Republican Party molded even more in the image of President Trump.

These are among the plausible consequences if the Republicans sweep the midterm elections and keep control of both the House and Senate. And don’t fool yourself. That outcome, although not the most likely one, remains possible. The last couple of weeks of polling have shown how it could happen.

Voters who lean Republican — including whites across the South — could set aside their disappointment with Trump and vote for Republican congressional candidates. Voters who lean left — including Latinos and younger adults — could turn out in low numbers, as they usually do in midterm elections. The Republicans’ continuing efforts to suppress turnout could also swing a few close elections.

No matter what, Democrats will probably win the popular vote in the House elections, for the first time since 2012. Trump, after all, remains unpopular. But the combination of gerrymandering and the concentration of Democratic voters in major cities means that a popular-vote win won’t automatically translate into a House majority.

In the Senate, the election already seems to be slipping away from the Democrats. Several of this year’s close Senate races happen to involve Democrats defending seats in red states. As a result, Republicans may expand their current 51-49 majority, making it easier for them to win close votes on legislation and nominations.

Good observation. Bill Mitchell also noticed not many polls are being released, also indicating trouble for the Dems.

A vote for feinsswine is a vote for 0 - 6 more years of feinswine. She’ll probably be dead in 6 years. At the very least, she won’t run again. She can barely keep her drool to herself now.

In 6 years, the political landscape could change dramatically, making it possible for a Republican to competitively challenge for an open seat.

A vote for de leon gives him 6 years to burrow into the Senate, to use the powers of incumbency to keep the seat in democrat hands for another 30 years, as, even if the political landscape changes a good deal, it will probably not change enough for a Republican challenger to mount a successful challenge against an incumbent de leon.

feinswine deserves to be punished, but in punishing her, we may be cutting off our nose to spite our face.

My God, his first paragraph sounds deranged.

And further down. He says the Dems will get all the votes in the House, but the cheating Republicans will steal the election through gerrymandering and other dirty tricks.

I would give a month’s pay to see the Pubbies dramatically increase their seats in both houses. The lib pain would be such sweet music - worth every penny.

The Pulitzer Prize Board stated in 2003:
"After more than six months of study and deliberation, the Pulitzer Prize Board has decided it will not revoke the foreign reporting prize awarded in 1932 to Walter Duranty of The New York Times."
Thus the Pulitzer Board trashed the value of its own prize.

It sounds a lot like the left is getting close to panic. I hope their trepidation is well founded.

I’ll say this, if the criminal actions of the Dems in regards to Kavanaugh are not sufficient to get a larger than average turnout on our side, then the “moderates” deserve the consequences of putting the real fascists back in power.

What if the Republicans win everything again?

Socialized medicine aka Obamacare may be repealed. The wall might get built and the nation’s immigration laws could be enforced. The sell out of American workers via importing lots of cheap foreign labor might be curtailed. More economically destructive environmental over-regulation might be rolled back. The US might get much closer to energy independence. The economy might continue its robust growth and the real unemployment rate might be reduced to pre-Obama levels. Judges who interpret the constitution according to the original intent of the Founders could be appointed and infringements on Americans’ constitutional rights - such as the right to keep and bear arms - might be stopped.

These are just some of the consequences that might happen if the Republicans win everything again. Hopefully even the densest of white males will see that there is no place for them in a party that does nothing but spew hatred for them constantly. Hopefully too the working class will see that the Democratic party has abandoned them. Also hopefully, ever more African Americans will walk away from the Democratic plantation mentality that says they must be beholden to the Democratic party no matter how badly it continues to fail them.

Right. If polls showed Dems ahead, we’d hear about them non-stop.

You can see the media and Demon Rats (redundant, I know) slowly starting to realize their dream of impeachment is dying.

So for now, they are just trying to scare their base into voting.

At some point, likely right after the election, they will signal what the approved Party response will be - which by then will be planned and coordinated. Maybe we will see a little public brainstorming, but likely the morning after will signal the strategy coordinated out of public view.

It seems that riot and resist is they have had for the last two years. Maybe they will try something new, or maybe they will try to ramp it up.

More damage to the environment.

Like that time when President Trump's EPA turned a river the color of his hair? Oh, wait, that was Obama's enviromental Keystone Kleanup in Colorado.

Voters who lean Republican — including whites across the South — could set aside their disappointment with Trump and vote for Republican congressional candidates.

My disappointment has been with the feckless "Republicans" in the House and especially the Senate. But with Flake going an McCain finally gone, along with so many Dem seats up for reelection it will be possible to get a majority of Republicans with Democrats, "Independent"/Socialists and Trump hating RINOs in the minority more things may finally get done.

Utter nonsense. The amazing amount of damage she can do in that time with her seniority and contacts is significant.

Utterly stupid to return a powerful effective foe hoping they die soon rather then a Sanders type nobody who can accomplish nothing but get a lot of media attention

Evil and stupid is much less dangerous then evil, cunning and powerful

And for what reason are we supposed to be disappointed with Trump? He's been doing everything he promised, and he's a fantastic president. Or maybe it's just disappointment that we're not tired of winning yet, even though Trump said we would be.

Who knows?
