Alaska Gov. Bill Walker announced Friday he is dropping his bid for re-election and endorsing Democrat Mark Begich against Republican Mike Dunleavy.
Walker made the announcement Friday afternoon at the Alaska Federation of Natives Convention, three days after former Lt. Gov. Byron Mallott stepped down from both his office and the re-election campaign over unspecified "inappropriate comments" he made to a woman.

With all due respect, what’s wrong with you people?
WTH?
I hope they’re not suckered by this, like they were by Murkowski.
I put money down on Begich to lose via PredictIt (don’t always have to bet on a winner, sometimes can bet on a loser).
Have to see how this affects my odds.
Most likely Begich still loses. It was a 3 man race. Now a 2 man race.
Is a write-in candidacy for someone else a possibility?
Weird stuff.
Did he not want to be seen as a votes suck from Begich and has seen internals, that Begich still loses? Maybe this is to save a future political attempt?
What did the Lt Governor say and why is it such a closely guarded secret?
Shouldn’t Dunleavy clean up even more now? What a disaster Begich would be for us Alaskans, least educated governor in the nation.
Perhaps someone can write in an ex-NHL player, like Scott Gomez or Matt Carle.
So according to Real Clear Politics the latest poll has Dunleavy at 43%, Begich at 26% and Walker at 27%. Dunleavy needs only 7% more to get over the 50% mark. This seems like pretty good odds.
Why did he drop out?
“I hope theyre not suckered by this, like they were by Murkowski.”

They fell for Murkowski’s line so they’ll most likely just go straight for the Democrat politician this time.
I would really like to see Alaska vote Republican all the way. One can always hope.
Sarah Palin nailed the problem back when she first became governor. It's what she called the CBC, or Corrupt Bastards Club, and members are from both parties.
I lived in Alaska 4th-6th grade. To explain Alaska, the economy, Native issues, Energy etc would be similiar to explaining to a Southner why New England is so democrat. Someone who lives there now would have a better shot, but you have to have more than a conventional repub/dem view
Rumor has it he said Id like to slip my elk Horn in her bear cave.
Just kidding. But if everybody comes up with horrible hypotheticals of what he said, perhaps it will inspire somebody to release the actual quote.
Well put. Thankfully the hardworking people of Alaska, though currently poorly represented, get to have the final say.
I wonder if there's also an investigation that's getting too close to the Governor and he thinks he'll be next so maybe resign now and keep it covered up.
I saw this coming from a mile away...I think your bet will still pay off. We’ll see.
